I would hate to lose the original though. That's my problem. Although it's nice to re-use clay, it's also a burden when the mold doesn't hold up after awhile, and your original is gone. Man, I'd be pissed. But then you are saving lots of dough too through reuse. (pun sumwhat intended). Kimncris gave me the sculpey idea Those trend setters. They are truly master zammers.

Sculpey can be a bit fragile too. We usually take the first clean cast from the mold and set it aside for re-mastering just in case something were to happen to the original. It's second generation, but it beats having to re-sculpt it!

KnC, when you did your first mold, did yall leave your sculpey unbaked? Kinda like how they were describing plasticine clay?
I baked my first set, so it wouldn't get stretched out when taking it out of the mold. And, so that would be my first "original." Believe it or not, it's actually easier for me to rescuplt a whole new one rather than fix the original.
But, not cost effective.
Do you all think it's better to use first cast as your "original" or the sculpey? I would think it's cheaper the second way, but it's easier to sand sculpey then sanding resin methinks if there is ever a problem with the original.
Oh, and thanks for the "props." Hehe.

Kim Baked them and then finished cleaning up the hardened masters prior to molding. They are still in great condition- but we have the resin ones too just in case.

Heheh, yeah, I think I am gonna get really sentimental about my greebs too. I prolly will have like my master scupley greebs, first resin cast, first painted... Wall lined with greeblies. I already have version 1.0 and 2.0 Hee!
