Not a Fett helmet...a new challenge for ya!

So what do you guys think about crafting the other parts of the helmet? Do you think the Sintra idea is feasible for the "shingles?"

Personally I would probably use styrene it's smoother and you can get it in thinner strips.

Yup , no quite sure but I believe I have two. one red helmet & one green/maybe blue helmet.
and I think I have a double silkscreen where it looks like the were messing around with designs Per helmet/Mcgill skull
the two look like they were blend together. ugly, but cool.

Hi guys and gals,

Well, I've been doing my home work on how to make this thing and have hit a wall. To make it as accuarate as possible, I want to sculpt the filigree like the crest and the ocular surround right on a plastic helmet like the one Geo referred me to.

I need that sculpting to cure or harden somehow so that I can make a mold for it and then cast it. I'd like to use the method prescribed on Dan Perez's site.

The problem is, for the clay to cure or harden it must be baked in an oven. This will melt the plastic helmet.

How can I sculpt the detials in place and then get them hard enough to withstand the mold making process?

You don't use a clay, you use a type of sculpting wax, it's much harder then clay, stays moldable, but holds detail better and will last through the molding process

I made a Sauron helmet, using lightly shaped sintra, and sculpted Gapoxio (an A B epoxy clay) directly over it.
Of course, it's 9lbs, but it still got the job done! And the helmet only took me 2 weeks.

Thanks guys! Fettcicle, what is this wax called so I can google it? I need to find a place that sells it. Also, you say it withstands the molding process...does that mean that when I make a clay bed (like on Dan Perez's site), the clay I pack around the wax will not damage the wax?

Camaro: that thing is SWEET. Nice work! How long is that epoxy workable for before it hardens?

Hey dreadpyrat, any chance of finding out if Lucasarts is going to come out with a "Bounty Hunter 2" Boba Fett adventures. They already have the engine built from BH 1 with Jango. All they'd have to do is create alternate environments or tweak the ones they have. Give him a different blast and whallah!

Wow !!!! ... that is really something !! .. maybe you could have a go at a prologue Elven helmet next

Gapoxio hardens after about an hour. The best thing about it, is that you can make it very smooth, with water, with only your fingertips. (did I already mention that?)

hmm the wax seems dangerous.. i mean if you can warm it with a lightbulb to mould it.. then what happens when you run around on stage with those hot lights on you for hours.. or worse.. you leave your helmet in your car on a hot summer day... insta puddle.. the clay seems better off
