My ROTJ journal

No more build updates on Fett, even tho I have a few bits already to go on it, a few more upgrades here and there.. I am working on another costume at the moment, super top secret :ninja so my focus is on that....here is just a tiny tiny amount of pics from a few large cons, in various outfits and just having a good time with The Joker Squad family.

Fantastic work restoring all my pictures after the PhotoBucket fallout! thought my journal would be finished for good!

So I shall continue on the journey, I made the trip to the 02 arena in London last weekend to see the Star Wars Identities exhibition and bumped into this guy :notworthy::D

I have a few more detailed pictures of this set up if anyone needs them. It seems to be a mixed take on the costume, the one thing that really struck me was the size of the right gauntlet its actually a lot smaller in person, in fact the whole thing was very very slender and not just down to the mannequin it was on, I did spend quite a bit of time looking at this thing and its just so thin/small... the glass was so thick it made pictures quite difficult as light was being reflected all over the place....

they had a whole bunch of original costumes on display, art works and so on...

Reviving my journal, quite a bit has happened between now and 2017 would take a day and a night to bring you up to speed..

Anyway... moving forward, I have upgraded a lot of my origial kit from this build thread, but instead of covering old ground I will document my new kit build which of course is Boba's kit from the Manadlorian...

Boba's new kit changes every episode and virtually every scene, so I will replica his kit from Ep8 season 2....

Started by cutting up and modding one of them helmets from Target infilling the impurities etc. Also drawing up a blaster design. ( I have a research thread going in the props section for the blaster)

Not a lot to begin with its all mainly research, research, research so starting with the armour parts first..

Been playing with some thermo plastics, sintra? One of many names I think...

Drew up a template for a knee pad and started hacking and heating up, some sanding needed i have some mild results withing a couple of hours. I think I will pursue this method and refine it a little...

Hopefully I will get the results I need.... I do enjoy the testing phase

Nice to see you back at it. Was a big follower during your earlier build. My first scratch build years ago was all sintra. Make sure you have good ventilation or wear a respirator if you have one. It can put off some nasty fumes.

Got my board and cut it up some more, armour plates on the body this time, the back plate is going to be.....interesting to do hence the unusual shape I cut it into, more on that later. Anyway some experimenting and couple of hours later I am getting decent results I think I can get a decent set out of this stuff...

Where are you these days with your costume anyways.. Still trooping!

Back plate, shoulder bells and collar plate today. Lots of heat, some formers and lots of shaping.

The back plate is tricky its all 3 dimensions of hell to try and fabricate, the best solution I came up with was to simply start forming on small areas at a time until a shape started to come together, now its down to refinements, cutting and sanding.... I think I have a decent enough looking "rough cut" to work on... I am making this to fit me so hopefully it all won't come out to big or small...

A bit rough at the moment in these pictures so please excuse. I will refine tomorrow..

I am having trouble with how to finish this back plate, in some shots the jet pack strap slits are there, in other shots they are not visible at all??? Also the question of that rectangle that has appeared

Stop the press!.... the back plate I started making is all wrong. This new version has new details I havent seen before, at first I thought it was the hood draped over the back plate and dismissed it. But looking closer at other pictures I see this detail repeating itself.

Looks like a curved cutout for whatever reason where the neck would traditionally fold upwards and form a collar.....

Those cutout are on the original too, but as you mentioned the neck piece should curve upward and the fact that the collar did not overlap the backplate, the whole backplate sits lover, this is why the cutout is so visible.

Wow.... how this escaped me I dont know, its strange.. I have Boba Maker armour on my previous kit and these cut outs arnt on it..... I must just be used to it like that..

Its definitely more visible and seems flatter so I went ahead with it

I cut it and it turned out well, even managed to get the flared slits for the JP start which I am confident are still on the armour...

Have a small pile of kit building up here, a lot and I mean a lot of refinements needed but essentially its all taking shape

I have hit a stumbling block... the knee pads. Fetts previous/origial kit had 2 knee darts of the same size on one side and two differently shaped and sized darts on the other...

I am currently working on this new generation of knee pads but unsure if all the darts are the same size or they have done it origial style..

I cant cut the holes until I know whats on what knee pad and where? I also can't find a decent enough bit of footage that shows them accurately enough...

Anyone help?

Wait.... I got it.. the knee dart scene of course.

Taking away two things from this,

the first is yes they have the cylindrical dart and the cone/spike shaped one on the correct knee..

The second... another set of darts appear on the other side of the knee pad... which I cant see later on.. in any other scene which is odd..

...Because it was CGI-ed for a greater visual effect. Normal knee pad:

CGI knee pad (it looks like the outer side was mirrored for the inner side):

The knee dart launchers looks to be correct ones (at least on the right knee):
