mounting of the JP

Hi guys, just looking for some feedback before i mess up. I am thinking of mounting my Jet Pack directly to my backplate. HAs this ever been done before and secondly any thoughts?

I'm not sure if the weight (in my case the JP only weighs about 5lb) would have a backwards moment or a downwards force.

My concern would be the weight of the jet pack pulling the backplate downwards, and through this making the collar choke you :facepalm This may or may not be an issue with your light jet pack.

But if you go through with it, how about still mounting the straps? I mean just glueing them on the inside of the backplate, through the slots and connected to the jet pack. Then it at least would look like the real setup :) And the real jet pack at a bit of angle away from the wearer's head.

From experience it is not a good idea. Developing a harness system is the best way to go. 5 pounds is 5 pounds and after a few hours It will strangle you to death.

Mine weighs 6.5 pounds and I cannot imagine how much pain I would be in without a harness. After 3-4 hours it feels like a ten ton stone.

cheers guys. I have already almost built my harness system anyway and will probably go for that anyway. I will have the JP ready for fitting in around 3-4 days and will post some pics of the harness attached. The only thing i am worried about is cutting the slots in my vest and back plate in the correct place (all scratch built so these are not already marked).

Andy - my backplate is attached to the collar (see pic)

I will be doing the same real soon. My harness is almost built, slots cut in the backplate. Still need to cut the holes in the vest. My plan is to wear the harness with the JP, without the backplate and vest and look in the mirror to see where everything lies, once its all adjusted. Then I will add in the backplate, readjust if neccesary and see where everything is. I kind of had to do some holding of the JP in the mirror, while I wore the backplate to help figure out exactly where to cut the slots in the backplate. Much easier to do with 2 people.
