Helmet padding

The real helmet appears to have a home made suspension system added in. The helmet is stabilized via a chin strap.

This is basically the way many fighter pilot helmets are outfitted.

I was hoping to redo the padding in my helmet with a more functional and aesthetically pleasing helmet padding. Currently, I'm using sponge type foam that is hotglued in place. Any luck using something better or more professional looking? Please share any tips!

I've looked into the hardhat liner, but there wasn't enough room to fit it in . . . .

same here...just use a watch cap...that holds it pretty sturdy...not sure how hot it gets, might wait for MMM to post here as he was wearing his in 100+ weather in the desert for a few hours, in a metal bucket

I bought the cheap $20-25 military style helmet from CheaperThanDirt, and removed the foam core liner. Then I removed the padding layers, and spray-glued them into my Bucket:

It doesn't take up much room, but I had to cut away for my fan, and a battery. I have a huge head.;)

After reading the responses about using football helmet type padding, I went to the local sporting goods store (SportsMart) and bought a baseball batting helmet. There's some good looking foam in there. It's the basic synthetic foam with a thin black fabric (felt?) fused as the top layer--good for letting the noggin breath a bit. I'll carefully peel the foam off the bball helmet and use the velcro technique when affixing to the Fett helmet. Thanks for the ideas!

Yeah, I went to Wal-Mart and bought a batting helmet too. The padding works great, plus, it's already formed to fit in a helmet. And it was only like $13.

Sadly, my head is so big it BARELY fits into my DP 95 recast, so there's not much room for padding.

Me too.:facepalm I have to put it on SIDEWAYS, then rotate it with my big nose over the cheek indents. Gets claustrophobic FAST.

Hey guys, if you want a huge selection of different sizes, shapes, and cuts go to a semiconductor or a computer place that sells hard drives. Here in San Jose, there are quite a few, but all hard drives and most other computer peripherals are sent in boxes with massive amounts of foam (ie egg crate etc.) most places save it for when they have to ship products back, and the stuff just seems to build up...so they are more than happy to have you take it for free. Just a suggestion, it works for me!
