!UPDATE:
I was supposed to start working on the back section, but somehow I felt more like doing the RF ear, and so I did.
I think it was a thread from FarGazer painting up his Sgt Fang bucket which gave me the idea to paint it gold. I think it looks very nice, eventhough it isn't quite accurate to the real deal. But I chickened out on the thought quite soon and decided to do a paint mix containing gold and deck tan to flatten the colour. Because if I look at the various photo's taken from the AoSW exhibition, I noticed that the RF ear more or less has that goldish glow to it.... at least IMO.
Anyway, here's what I came up with:
Only at the rigth angle does the light reflect a hint of gold metallic in the paint. It is not apparent from this pic though:
Also did the gray and silver damage:
And I finally glued on the right ear to the helmet:
Let's leave it to dry for a night:
Wow! That bright silver really reflects the flash!8)
Next I need to figure out a way to do the decals on the earcap. I'll have to do a wee bit of browsing TDH before I think of a method. Or maybe some of you can give me some pointers.

Dude, you have me working up the courage to try my hand at scratch-building again. You, SD 68, Honus and some others have done some awesome scratch-builds!
I'm going to have to drag out my old batting helmet, For Sale signs & super glue and have a go at it again.
Nice idea on the wires inside the range-finder.
Keep up the good work.

I've been following this thread since it started, and have been increasingly more impressed every time I check it out again.
Just curious... how strong is this construction? Will it stand up to gentle use? I assume because it's cardboard it wouldn't be very durable. But, wow, what a great piece for display.

UPDATE 26 FEB:
Today I had some spare time at hand so I took the opportunity to work on the right ear. Yesterday I already found a way to apply the "arch" decal on the ear cap. I did this by hand drawing the arch on a piece of paper with the help of the W
F template for the RF ear cap. I scanned it in and converted it to a bitmap so I could easily colour in the white arch and print it on my deskjet:Just like I did for the left ear with the Count Dookie template, I cut out the arch and glued it onto the cap.
In the process I added some more gray and silver damage to the ear cap.
Next I had to find a way to do the nine stripes on the metal part of the cap. This was tricky, cuz I couldn't find any rub-on transfers here in town. Then I thought of something a fellow TDH-er mentioned:
Chris, thanks for the tip man! I decided to paint on the stripes by hand. I used a lot of references, as you can see from this desktop shot:
Thanks to Superjedi for the reference pics! (I printed them from the forum thread) They proved to be quite invaluable, and a treat to look at! :love
The result was this:
As you can see I also painted on the dot and the T in a sort of weathered way (personal touch):
For now I'll give the ear, and my

I guess it doesn't have the rigidness of fiberglass but for cardboard it is quite sturdy. Especially because of the two layers I used. The dome is the most vulnerable part I guess, since it would be prone to cracking if it would drop on the floor
or something silly.... aaargh!:angry Never speak of dropping one's dome! It be blasphemy! LOL Sorry, got a bit carried away there...This bucket would withstand the once every year Halloween party I guess. I could dress up my son as a Wookee and go trick or treatin' in the 'hood, no problemo!

This evening I finally got around to mixing the PRR Maroon and got it onto the mandibles:
Now I better get a good night's sleep, because I will have to get up early tomorrow as I will be visiting Star Wars - The Exhibition in Brussels!
