DrToothache's Jango WIP (Kamino)

Made some changes to my speaker setup for Jango. One of the problems I have run into is the lack of useable pouches for housing an amplifier. I have been using a typical Anker amplifier and hiding it on my side under my flak vest, but this isn't ideal as it creates a "bulge" in the flak vest and also makes the sound come out of my side rather than the front.

To fix this I disassembled the amplifier, disconnected the speaker and soldered a 4ohm exciter. An exciter is designed to be mounted to a hard surface and then uses that object as the "speaker". This allows an exciter to be much smaller than a traditional speaker while producing similar levels of sound.

I disposed of the amplifier housing and then mounted the exciter and the included battery against the abdomen plate. I then ran the 2 wires through a small hole in my flak vest where it connects the low profile amplifier circuit board from the amp where I can plug in my microphone. I used hot glue to insulate the circuit board and hopefully protect it from sweat during troops.

It seems to be least as loud as the speaker was, but seems to be louder to me. It also has much more bass than the speaker did. I took a quick video but it doesn't really do it justice.

Nice work! Really transforms the kit and takes it to the next step. I had the exact same set ups! But I settled with the opposite. The quality didn’t sound good on mine but on the cosvoz it’s so load, I have to put it on like the lowest setting or It sounds ridiculous ridiculously loud lol. I liked the hand controller for that speaker as well.

I was able to put the battery pack in the gauntlet and the cords under my flight suit. I downloaded voice lines from Star Wars bounty hunter and it worked really well.

I put the speaker on the inside bottom of my helmet. I had tons of room. I might just have a smaller head. But sounds straight from me.

You must be stoked on the build. Loved seeing all your updates! Great work!

Thanks Thebountyhunter ! Yeah I really like the CosVox system. I was torn between trying to mount the included speaker vs switching out for the exciter. My head is a little bigger though so I don't have a lot of space in the helmet, so I ended up giving the exciter a try.

I thought that the exciter didn't sound good at first when I initially tested it on the ab plate, but once I put the vest/jetpack harness on and my body was putting pressure on the exciter/ab plate - that's when the sound came through. I almost scrapped it but I noticed that the more pressure is on the exciter, pushing it against the ab plate, the better it sounded if that makes sense.

I got to test it out this weekend at 3 Rivers Comicon and it worked well!

You should definitely do a build post, it would be great to see your kit and setup.

I never thought about how that could amplify the sound. The innovation is really cool to see with your build.

Ahaha! Maybe I’ll finally start one. I would love to get critiques to see how I can better my kit.

We want to see it!!

I attended another troop this past weekend and decided to take advantage of the location and get some photos.

There are still some small changes that I want to make with this build. One of them being the flightsuit. I have been using re-dyed evolution props flightsuit, and while it has worked just fine it is missing some minor details. I ultimately made the choice to purchase an Arkady flightsuit which should be shipping soon!

I love my Arkady. I’ll make some posts about mine on my thread. You will have to dye it, like you did yours.
