Late to the party but congrats on your 501st legion approval! You look amazing!!!
How was the first few troops?
Thank you lowberg ! First few troops went well. It was hot but a lot of fun! It's a little easier to wear than Jango - weighs a little less and the scuba harness helps a lot with the jetpack vs my Jango harness.

Congrats on your approval!!
Thank you viewoptic !

Another troop with Boba!

I made some adjustments before this troop - tightened up the spacing between the collar armor and chest armor. I also selectively boiled my thigh pouches to shrink them as they were still too large even with less foam in them. I think that the size is better now.

I have a new project in the works currently - building my own jetpack harness. I am attempting to make the harness as accurately as possible with what I am able to source. The one that I am currently putting together is more of a test run before ordering the pre-cut sheet metal and other parts to construct multiple of these.

I will be updating here since this is considered part of my build right now, but I am considering offering these at basically cost of construction. I have many of the tools already that are required for this kit (mostly the drill press, pipe cutter and rivet gun). I had to source a pipe bender with the correct bending radius which took more time than I expected.

Here is what I have accomplished so far:

I still have to tap the holes to install the rivets for the middle and upper support bars. I am also working on making more accurate rhomboid shaped D-rings with a lower gauge steel wire. Once that is completed I will sew on the straps and divers buckle to test it out. The lower jetpack 3/4" support bar will be replaced with a 10mm bar to better match movie references.

That’s awesome!! Not too many harness makers!

Looks great!!
Thank you guys! Yeah the lack of current makers is what motivated me to start making them. I know that the Big Dane harness is really good, I’m not trying to compete. I just figured it’s good to have another option / more runs.

The prototype is pretty much complete. There are some small changes that I am going to make, like pre-forming the metal support strips so that they have the little 1” extension wrapping over towards the center.

I have debated switching to a 4-panel seat belt, but for whatever reason they are more expensive. To keep the price down I will use the 5-panel seat belt and then those who want to switch to a 4-panel can always do that.

The off-white straps with the rings will be switched out for white straps.

The lower support bar is being switched with a 10mm tall, 2mm thick bar to better match references. I personally prefer a beefier support bar but…accuracy.

Triglides will be added to the straps.

Bottom metal support will be made slightly smaller per visual references. Middle metal support will be attached slightly lower on the harness.

I’m probably missing some things but that is the majority of changes that will be made.

Whipped together another jetpack harness with some of the accuracy improvements mentioned above. The new design is smaller and much closer to references in height, but I made the mistake of using a smaller bend radius (I should've stuck with the 2.25" bend radius!). The 12mm pipe also doesn't like the smaller bend radius, as you can see the metal begins to kink at this small of a bend. Going to use the previous former as the width was much more accurate and is actually the ideal bend radius for a 12mm pipe...more evidence that it is the bend used for the screen-used harnesses.

Just need to adjust the height on that initial prototype, including other accuracy changes mentioned above (smaller struts and 10mm support bar).

Prototype 1 vs Supertrooper reference (proper bend radius, slightly too tall)

Prototype 2 vs Supertrooper reference: (accurate height, too small of a bend radius)

A new harness is being fabricated as I type this. I will update once it is finished!

I am still deciding what to do with the prototypes once I am done. I will likely give them away to someone in the process of building. They are still useable, especially the smaller one as it actually fits under the backplate very nicely :)

Ok, final version of the frame with correct bend radius has been put together. Adjusted spacing of support bars and some other small changes.

Both prototypes (top) vs final frame (bottom)

This will be the base going forward. Precut support bars have been ordered. I will update again once I attach the straps, rings etc.
