Creating the Jumpsuit or Coveralls

Its more of a baby blue mix, but very faded all over....ESB is hard to pin point because certains angles of the suit are lighter than the others. Not to mention the pub. shots really screwed w/ the colors.

The jumpsuit looks great DV1. I too went the Dickies route, but I opted for the khaki ones. To me the ROTJ suit looked like a faded khaki/grey. I've had it for two years and still it's not as light as I'd like it to be, but it works. These Dickies are hard to fade..

Yeah, still shots are hard to go by. but I've always had idea in the back of my mind it wa a very light blue with some gray mixed with it.
I think I may go with the redcaps:

These are 100% cotton, and should fade well. I may add a small amount of gray dye to it as well.

Opinions?

Boba's suit look a lot like a really faded post man blue to me. Mabe with a hent of light gray. I think your plan should work out nicely.

I just found this site and the work suit is only $15.97. But it only comes in navy blue. But for that price I am willing to use rit dye remover. They also come in short and long sleeve. I bought both. I am making a custom so the color is not a big problem. Navy mite look good with black armor. If you guys are interested i will post when i get them and let you know the quality and other details. Click here to check them out.:D

Blastech, thanks for the compliments! You saw me at Dragon*Con last year, and I've seen your costume there as well, and you're right, it's a pain in the a$$ to bleach them. You'd probably want to use RIT color remover, mostly about (and calculating) about 4-5 boxes to take most of the color out of it, to then use RIT "Pearl Grey" dye on it, but depending on how faded is the suit. The way I have it now, bleaching it a little bit more, is fine for an ESB suit...in my opinion, and maybe adding a little bit of baby blue dye.

Someone has to try it first and post it here to see the results. My jumpsuit is still a way long to be faded the way I want it, but it will work for an ESB suit....maybe that's a camera color change effect due to lightining or with the time...who knows....

Bummer to hear they're not accurate though. :(

Ah well, I'm happy with them as long as I don't learn too much from this place. :D

RE, cool pic...but...there's a lot that you have to work on your costume.

The jumpsuit (one of the most complicated parts, believe me on that), doesn't have the other long sleeve underneath the short sleeve. You have to do the thigh and shin tool pouches, take the shine away from your armor, use some satin color like RO Satin Spruce Green with Matte finish afterwards, and misted with a little of flat black (but instructions are in the Armor section for more details).

You should've read the beginning of this thread (if you haven't done so) for step-by-step of doing the jumpsuit with two Dickies. (the right way). Reason: so you could do the pockets and the extra sleeve with the very same material of the jumpsuit, except that's from the extra one.

I am in desparate need to find a WHITE flightsuit/coverall outfit.

I have had no luck with finding white flightsuits anywhere.

(I an a bit gunshy of bleaching a light gray suit ~ I would like a snow white look and bleach may not work %100 - if anyone thinks differently though, please advise).

I found a site that offers white chemical coveralls but they are made for people three times my size (or so I am told by their representative).

Any help/thoughts/insight/suggestions/direction would be choice.

Thanks folks,

i just came from my local hardware store where on a rack they had like 20 - 30 used coveralls hanging there, they are light blue, faded, wore, seams are tathered, i figure these would be killer for a esb costume however they want $24.99 apair. is this too much you guys think?? i saw where someone found them like this cheaper, i still will probably buy some, if anyone else is interested pm me

I have a question. Do you buy 2 coverall. One short sleeve and one long and wear them together or do you cut one up to make the extra sleeves.

I see that phantom viper has both on. I don't want to look like the Michalin man. I'm not saying you do phantom viper, I just know that I will.

Does anyone have any ideas on doing the sleeves

Actually I think i do:lol:

I do plan on attaching the long sleeves to the short sleeve. Just got to figure out how:D I am sure there are plenty of threads here that can put me on the right track. Time to use the search:D

I received my red caps today in postman blue for my ESB. I think I am going to try with some bleach on the test fabric first, and if it doesn't do to well - move to RIT color remover.

Everyone wish me luck!

Well, Let me start by saying if you are going to do ESB and use Red Kap's - DON't buy postman blue! This picture is very deceiving.
rca01a.jpg

It does NOT look that blue. It is more of a cross between the PB and NV colors. I have put 4 packs of RIT color remover on it now and it barely faded. I tried Chlorox on a sample, but it turned purple. :(

I wish now that I had ordered white and then dyed it blue. I believe it would have been easier.

[edit]Now I've put 8 packs total on it and still won't fade down. I'm going to try hanging it outside tomorrow all day and see how it goes[/end edit]

That's to bad. I am having a problem with mine as well. I soaked it in Clorox bleach for a couple of hours and it did nothing but made it look worn in. Didn't effect the color at all. I have even soaked a small spare piece of the fabric that I cut from one of the pockets for a couple of days and still nothing. So now I am thinking, will the RIT dye remover work? Hope yours works out for you.:D

Do they even exsist, or am i gonna have to come up with my own? Any help with this would be really apriciated.

Welcome to the Board. If you are looking for patterns or any type of help this is indeed the right place. You should start by doing a search on this board.I dont recall ever seeing any definitive patterns yet. Most of the work will be on your own or with the help of others. Their are also other links who can provide a finished jumpsuit.
