Bossk A New Bossk at the Dented Helmet

Greetings fellow Bounty Hunter/Star Wars enthusiasts! Thought I'd show you my Bossk impression here, as Bossk is has a cloe connection with Bobba Fett in the Star Wars lore. This is my first and only Star Wars costume, though I also do historical reenactments going back to ancient Rome and up to Viet Nam. My "day job" is running the U.S. Army Museum at Fort Campbell. The guy who introduced me into the Star Wars hobby, 'Tambo Fett' is a member here, and his excellent Bobba and Jango costumes inspired me to go the extra mile, and really put a lot into this Bossk. It has been a big hit at the few events it was seen at, as it has only been truly complete for about two months now.

I made nearly the complete costume from scratch save for the unpainted mask and arms. I added high quality glass taxidermy eyes, (as looking through the mask eyes is not very convincing) so look out of the mouth. Along with the massive custom 'dinosaur' feet (with individual scales), Bossk stands an intimidating 6 foot 8 inches, and pretty scary for some of the little kids. The flight suit is a real USAF flight suit converted to resemble the real, RAF Windak suit that Bossk wore in the film, as the usual 'yellow cotton coveralls' just aren't right. The USAF suit has the same taped seams and waterproof/airtight zippers as Bossk's Windak suit, but I had to add the black rubber collar that the helmet ring and zipper opening are imbedded into. All of the hardware on the suit that should be metal, is metal, and Tambo helped make some of the bits at an avionics workshop on our base.

The blaster is made from an Army camouflage net pole, old paintball gun, cast resin scopes, and a wooden AK 47 stock I brought back frm Iraq. The blast effect in the photo was made with a Roman candle inserted in the barrel.

The costume is now complete, though I may make a hypethetical helmet to fit Bossk's big 'lizard head', since the 'space suit' is designed to have one. Or did he just 'eat' its former, human occupant (seen wearing this suit in the Cantina earlier) ?

Dan it has been a great time helping you out with a few parts on your Bossk. It's the details that count and you have gone the extra mile to make every little detail for Bossk from your Reptile eyes down to the tallons on your feet. Looking forward to many hunts with you.

Thanks, Firespray. Bossk actually LOVES Wookies (provided there's plenty of Ketchup). While Bossk's relationship with wookies was never elaborated on in the mainstream films, (not surpising with less than a minute of air time), the follow-on SW fan media depicts him as a notorious hunter and enslaver of wookies, so I simply developed this idea to give the character more character. Bossk has many adventures with Bobba Fett in the later media as well, both as ally and enemy, though in truth, I haven't actually read the novels, but found the Bossk background in the Wikipedia.... err, Wookiepedia.

Actually you can see somone wearing the orignal helmet along with the rest of Bossk's flightsuit in the original Star Wars Cantina scene. It cannot be Bossk because the character has normal boots and gloves, but we never see his face under the helmet. Bossk's head is probably too big for the original helmet. While this was simply a case of the producers reusing the same costume in the ater film, one could imagine Bossk mugging the Cantina guy and then wearing his flightsuit, but without the human sized gloves and foots that wouldn't fit him!

I was actually planning to build "Bossk's Trophy Room" with the mounted heads of various SW Universe denizens, and of course, the big Wookie-skin rug in front of the fireplace. 'll try to have it ready for in time to use as this year's Christmas Card.

I like the picture with the tongue sticking out. Is that some kind of attachment? Its too long to be real! Its a great costume! I just reorganized my boyfriend's star wars room and I saw the Unleashed figure of Bossk. Awesome!! I love when people costume outside of the normal characters.

Thanks Squirrlie, the tongue was made by making a plasticene/modeling clay model, and then covering it with several layers of latex rubber. When the clay is removed, you have a hollow, balloon-like appendage. I couldn't use my own tongue anyway, for this Bossk has built up shoulders, and I must peer out of his mouth, with my own mouth down in his neck. I did this to make him stand about 6'8", and so I could use realistic glass taxidermy eyes, instead of just looking through mask holes where the eyes should be.
