Price Check and Advice

Hello everyone.
I'm not sure this is the place to post this,

I've been lurking here for a couple of months, and all of your posts and guide have been very helpful. I'm just starting out in the costuming world, and am pricing out buckets for my first suit. I've mostly been looking on a popular auction website we all love to hate, trying to get a fix on pricing for a middle to high end bucket. I'm know I've PMed a couple of you on your auctions.

I've been looking at this auction in particular. I'm planning on asking Santa to bid for me, and it would be helpful to be able to give a pricerange so he won't panic when the bidding gets up there. It's an early mystery helm, refinnished by BobaMaker, and signed by Mr. Fett himself. I wouldn't be suprised if it was one of you guys selling the thing. Also, maybe someone can enlighten me as to whether it's a ESB or ROTJ...i'm not sure how to tell the diffrence.

Here's the link:

I appreciate the help, I'm sure I'll be around for a while to come.

It's an ESB version of the helmet. The kill stripes are yellow (ROTJ are orange) the back of the helmet is blue green (as opposed to green-blue) and the rangefinder is the ESB style.

I removed the link to a live ebay auction. Please read the CoC. I have also moved it to The Sarlacc Pit.

Thank you Asok, Sorry about the CoC violation. I wasn't sure about whether the linking was kosher. I'll read the CoC and try better to comply next time.

Thank you for your response Charlie.

another giveaway is the "cat scratch" damage on the helmet. strange that it's a bobamaker paint job... doesn't look like others i've seen.

are you planning on using this as a collectible or as a costume item? if a costume, the signature wouldn't be a good thing...

Thanks TK2702...good call on the catscratch. I wouldn't have picked that out.

I was planning on using it for costuming, but I don't really do any Cons or anything, so it's not like I'm really going to be going for any contests. Honestly, most of the time it'll probably sit on display. I don't have many opportunities to wear the gear, though i'm sure I would find some when I get a good rig put together. It's more of the fact that I've wanted to do this forever, and i figure if I can't get the idea out of my head, it's probably a pretty good investment time and effortwise.

I think the signature would be fairly unabtrusive, and a pretty cool addition to a collection...so long as it doesn't boost the price of the piece above my pricerange. Honestly, if it's really annoying me, I can always scrub it off...i'm sure it's just a sharpie and from what i've gathered, autographs arn't to rare... I think I can cap the high end of what I could pay for a bucket at $300, and this seems like a pretty good deal given what i've seen on "that auction site". It's tough to come across one with a good paintjob that isn't starting at +$400 (US).

It's more than I can afford...but it's not more than I can justify. Seems like a common sentiment around here =P. GOGO SNATA!!!

the decals on the ears are another tell, rotj ears are dirty silver/aluminum. the "turn signals" are red and black on rotj. the damage on the back of the helmet is much more colorful on the esb with the layers of green and cream and grey and metal. the damage around the dent, on esb it head back more toward the top, rotj it more of a rolling tear coming down to the brow ridge. etc, etc, etc...

imho, from what can been seen in these small pics the paint doesn't seem to be up to BM's standards. also if you're concerned about it, the autograph will drive the price up. if you have the artistic inclination, just keep an eye out here for one of our extremely talented artisans producing a bucket and give painting it yourself a try or you can ask around to find someone that would be willing to paint it for you. (and if you're willing to go rotj i'm kinda itching to paint up another one /shifty)

Hmm, that's a great offer SN! I love this place. Let's see how the auctions go. If I pick up a decent repainted job, I'll probably stick with that...However, if I get a standard issue type of thing I may take you up on it. Where are you located, and if you have any idea, how much would you be asking for the work (ballpark is fine, I understand that these things may change depending on the time it takes)? Feel free to PM me if you wish

Q: is there any significant differance in the shape or construction between ROTJ and ESB? It seems like the ROTJ is more steamlined, but it may just be forshortening in the refference photos i've seen.
