Good afternoon TDH,
Those that have been round a while will recognize me, others maybe not.
I'm Robert and joined TDH in April 2008 (Holy Crap, I didn't realize it's been 17 years). Started out joining the 501st, with building ESB Boba Fett as my end goal. Amassed most of the found parts known of the time.
Along the way, honed my prop building skills. Decided I would try my hand at painting Boba Fett helmets. Found out I have a decent knack for it, I'm just admittedly slow (more on that in a moment). Once I did my first one as a Make-A-Wish donation for our local garrison, decide to take commissions, as I enjoy doing them and also a way to improve my skills.
I got my attention to detail from my mom. She was a trained seamstress (since I was five) and a stickler for doing it right. As began my exploration of Fett, she ended up modifying a lot of the soft parts I got it, as we noticed things were good, but could be better.
Along the way, we determined the Dents Gloves took the plunge to make a pair. I did all the glove dying and she sewed all the quilting. Each pair took her 10 hours to hand sew. She was retired so I asked her if she wanted to make some hobby spare cash and do gloves. She liked the idea and we set out. Had no idea when the response was overwhelming (10 pairs ordered within a day of opening the first run.
We scaled it back to 3-5 pairs at a time, as she felt up to doing them. So worried about me sending out each pair to those of you that ordered. Always asked me if there were any complaints.
We stopped doing gloves (in later 23 I believe) as her health began to get compromised, as she didn't want orders hanging out that she would take too long to get done. She genuinely worried about how it would be perceived.
If you have a pair of VillainWorks Fett gloves, you now have a true limited edition item, as my mom lost her battle with Cancer. Say a prayer, raise a glass, however you would choose to honor her.
I wanted to share this with all of you because she did get joy out of sewing and creating.
I will not take any commissions until I get two items completed. Even then, as before, I will only offer as I have reasonable time. Thankfully, I've seen some amazing artists out there, so there are options.
Take care and I'll be around as I can.
Robert
