ToEleven ESB Paintup for tykyu

Fellow tdh member tykyu commissioned me to do the paint job on his ESB he purchased from me, so I figured I would go ahead and to a progress thread.

Predictably I am starting with the back panels.
The 1st layer is concrete. The second layer is various mixes of RLM73, Dark Blue, black and concrete.
Also, the rest of the helmet is Polly Scale SP Lark Dark Gray.

Why did you paint the whole helmet with Dark Grey but nit the back pannels? It's like you're going with a mix of layered grey but topical silver, except on the back with the grey also topical?

I like to hit the dark gray on the back panels topically. It's easier than trying to line up a 3rd layer of paint color. I do the red/maroon/gray in 3 layers, but the bigger areas of the back panels seem to give me more trouble.

Here I mask off the dark gray damage and go over with the light green. To start off I normally mix MM panzer olive grun 1947 2:1 with white.
This time I ended up going back and lightly hitting with a darker mix and then with a grayish mist. I kind of lost track really...it's mostly just a feel thing.

Great progress pics! I dont know what it is specifically, but so far your paintwork looks really... finde. Sharp edges. Its really something! Looking forward to seeing the end result.
I am sure though tykyu is looking forward to it was more then I am ;)

How long do you usually spend on one "sitting" in painting a helmet? How do organize yourself?

Indeed, I am truly looking forward to it! ToEleven Love the way the back panel turned out. ^^

Just wanted to update this thread as it's been a while. I can happily say it's finished! ToEleven (Jay's) work is as expected, truly phenomenal. Helmet interior by u/whiteshadow. My God, I am excited to have this helmet soon. Just wanted to share with ya'll!!!
