Thigh pocket placement?

Need expertise here, The ESB thigh pockets seem to not be on the very front of the thigh.
They appear closer to the outer seams. Anybody have any info on this?

I looked at as many actual costume photos I could find. It looks to me that the ESB thigh pockets run parallel to the seams on the outsides of the flight suit legs. They appear to be about an inch and a half from the seams. I saw one fan flight suit that had them at one in from the seams. That is what I went with. Mine used to be in the center of the thighs and positioned symmetrically between the leg seams. I think where I moved them looks way better, though they seem small. Anyone know how big they should be? I used the WOF pattern in 2006.

I used to center them but now I move it towards the outer seams just a bit, depending on the size, from 1/2" up to an inch.
