So I've decided to get into this hobby

I've decided that I want to get started on building a costume and after looking around a bit, a friend on another forum directed me over here. I'm going to be doing things bit by bit but I just don't know where to start. I went around ebay and found a seller that's got a few sets of the armor completely unpainted.

Am I wrong in assuming these pieces would be the easiest to get started on?

I've never painted anything in my life so that in itself would be another learning experience for me, am I better off doing that or just buying pieces already pre-painted? I've seen a few sets on ebay but I've found that I'm just not satisfied with the paint-jobs on most of them. So, which guide do you guys feel is the best for getting started on my project?

Or for that matter, are there any links you guys think are essential to look at?

I appreciate any info you guys can give me and I look forward to sharing my progress with you guys.

I guess that is all a matter of personal opinion...
if you feel that you can create and paint the armor yourself then I say do it.

Making something like this is a lot of work - but it is also a lot of fun.
Watching it all come together slowly is an incredible experience...

That's the thing, I've never painted anything in my life but I know it'll be a much more rewarding experience if I paint it myself. I mean, I did good in art class back in high school, so it's not like I'm completely artistically inept.

Start by reading and doing as much research as you can.

This will save you time and money.

The painting techniques are discussed on this forum, read, read, read BEFORE you buy anything (Trust me on this one! ).

Remember... Search is your friend!! :D

follow Ripcode's instruction
& don't be afraid to tackle projects yourself.
It's more fulfilling when you do.
And you might actually be good at it.

Welcome Shampy!
I find that it's more satisfying to paint my own pieces. It's a loooooong road though, so make sure you do some research before you begin.

Beware of some eBay sellers!! Ask some members here questions before you commit to buying something that may be "less than average quality".

There's a wealth of information to be found just by skimming through some of the many threads on the board.

One of us... one of us...

Just kidding. This hobby is a lot of work, but a lot of fun too. Like everyone else said, read as much as you can about whatever you decide to work on, research will pay off in the long run. And one thing I've learned about these forums is, don't be afraid to ask questions (that's how you learn things after all). There are a ton of great people here who offer invaluable help.
