shaping a rubies helmet

I know the preferred helmets are not Rubies but it is what I can afford right now. I saw a previous posting about shaping it with hot water. Are we talking like steaming hot water (Boiling)or just very hot water from the tap. I would like to cut out the visor but have not ever done this before. What is the best way to cut the plastic since the visor is not really a full visor?

The helmets are easy to reshape, and the plastic will get soft in any hot conditions, Just sitting it in a car on a hot day will cause it to change form. What I did was warm mine up in hot water from the bath tubb then used a hairdryer to warm it further then stuff it with towels. This usually does the trick. As far as the Visor, I just used an exacto knife to cut it out. I bought the exacto knife from walmart for a dollar and some change, it had the visor out in no time, I also used this on the Keyholes.

OK, Took advise of the boards and put helmet in car this weekend. It got very soft. I stuffed it with towels and then put it in the freezer. Here is what I have after.

My next step will be to cut out the visor, repaint and then install a new visor.

So all you have to do is stuff it with rags after its hot and that shpaes it right??

Or a balloon. For the quick fix, after the hot water and shaping, run it under cold water.

What I did was stuff it with a towel to hold the shape and put it in the freezer for a while.

I read somewhere,either here or on another costuming site, to put a metal craft ring in it to hold it's shape. I did this to my boba fett helmet and it worked great. You get a 12 inch craft ring cut it into two peices. Place it in the bottom of the helmet and glue it in. It's really easy. With that said I'm realizing this might need a photo. I'll try to get one up if anyone's wants to see.

That I do not know, looking to get my self some today. Going to check out the home depot, or maybe Lowes. I am pretty sure you can get it there becasue they sell the hardener for it.

By me Lowe's has fiberglass, and even Walmart has fiberglass mat and hardner in the auto repair section. You can also find it at places that sell boat repair supplies.
