Rotj Shin Tools

Hunter
Hey all, just thought I'd post my most recent rotj hero shin tools paint up. I used an original paterson Squeegee w/ Sintra blade and machine craft parts. Enjoy!

I used a charcoal base acrylic paint. I then sanded down the worn spots with 600 grit paper, and lastly used testors dullcoat to seal it. The tape I used was a 1" gaffers tape with masking decals provided by shortfuse(amazing).

Very nice job! I also did mine with the same stuff....except, I didn't use Sintra for the blade portion. I used a Polycarbonate Acrylic Sheet and shaped it to fit my needs. I actually had purchased the Man of War Shin Tools for my ROTJ Fett. But as time went on during my build I grew more and more knowledgeable on the ROTJ variant and I took notice of the differences. For one, the MoW versions face the wrong direction and was really meant for an ESB Fett. What I didn't like is that they couldn't be flipped around either. They were only casted with the details on one side. So I had buyers remorse. However, I pressed on and finished them. Here is my Man of War Shin Tools.....

Not a horrible 1st attempt I thought.

I even bought and a 55 yard roll of 1 inch Gaffers Tape to use!

I then got the Patterson Squeegee and Machine Craft Replica's Shin Tool Rods. An then went to work on my version 2.0! Here was my process for my Sonic Beam Weapon...

And then for my Anti-Security Blade...

I sized them up a little from the Man of War variant to fit my Arkady Flight Suit pockets a bit better. But after some paint and weathering I compared the two sets together....

What a lot of people don't know, is that it costs just about the same to get casted Shin Tools versus getting the Patterson Squeegee and MCR's Shin Tool Rods. Yeah, you could argue that it takes time to cut it up and sand it and assemble the Shin Tool Rods. But c'mon.....they look worlds better don't they?

Those shin tools look great! I wanted to do an all black anti-security blade at first but was like...I'm going to blend it and make it look worn down with some silver airbrushing. I might streak it with some oil paint...haven't decided yet. Thanks for the input!

Nice breakdown and step-through Irongladiator. Well done. You actually don't have to fill that hole left behind by the removal of the finger grip on the Paterson squeegee. ILM just left it open. Unless, of course, you're going for the idealized 'in-world' tool, not a prop recreation, which I totally get. Also, you can use helmet visor material for the 'anti-security blade' on the bottom. You won't have to paint it black with the added bonus that's how ILM did theirs. But again, fantasy vs prop recreation. Love that bench sander! I need to get one of those.

Once again fillin' me with knowledge. That's super cool!

...And yes, I was going for that idealized 'in-world' tool, Hahaha!

Also, very interesting on the visor material being used for the Blade portion of the Anti-Security Blade. I opt'd for the thicker Polycarbonate Sheet because it seemed to be the best choice and unlikely to break easy.
Love that bench sander! I need to get one of those.
Right? I picked it up as part of a Christmas Deal last year at Home Depot! Ryobi makes a smaller Bandsaw that I've been eyeing up too. And I totally want a nice DeWalt Miter Saw in my arsenal as well!

The sintra was as thick as the slot of the Squeegee. I had 2 thick pieces and one smaller piece glued together to form the blade. I used a caliper to get the right measurements for the entire piece then dremeled the corners. Was fun making it!

Very, very nice tutorial on a real-item conversion as it was done for the movies. Excellent job.
I am so following this thread since I need to upgrade mine, and 3D printed version didn't do the trick for me, though.
