Jango Build (nearly done!)

Hey all!

I'm a member of the 501st ECG (as a TK) and currently finishing up my Jango, a WIP since May. I've been so fortunate to have such great help from the TDH community. Your threads and advice have been so crucial to my build! I especially want to thank Cruzer, who hooked me up with the whole package, from advice to all my armor and leather work. All that said, below is a list of items I'm using and photos I took today. Please give me your critiques! I think I'm done with all the armor pieces and only lack finishing the jetpack (assembly and weathering). I hope to be ready for 501st submission within the next two weeks!

Looking good. You probably will need/want to cut some length off of the back plate. The bottom of the back plate should be about even with the bottom of your ab plate. It will be more screen accurate and it will troop much better if the back plate is above the belts.

But overall you have a good looking Jango.

Thanks, Mullreel! I'll definitely look into that here soon. It's a little cringing to think about taking the dremel to it haha. I also raised the cod piece to hide the "wings."

Anyways, update to the JP! I received all the parts minus the tank caps and thruster greeblies (also Lucky 31's decals) last week, so I was able to paint, assemble, clear coat, and weather just about everything. I'm not sure that I put enough weathering; I was way too cautious throwing black and brown paint all over the beautiful base colors. I'll probably give it another whirl this weekend.

As soon as I get the greeblies and tank caps in, I think I'll be ready for submission pics!

Here were my submission photos. (Please excuse the wrinkled sheet background again..) I plan on posting more photos of my jetpack up close with the paints I used (for those curious, as I noticed in my build that some paints suggested in these forums are no longer sold.)

The updates to the photos posted earlier:
-Made grappling hook out of pastry bag tips and ABS plastic
-Strapped, finished greeblies, and added more weathering to jetpack
-Ripped out and reattached shoulders to sit more flush.

Some tweaks I plan to make:
-Raise cod piece to hide the wing tips
-Raise jetpack a smigeon higher
-Cut backplate a little higher

Looking great! I would recommend maybe some 3/4"-1" nylon straps attached to the sides of the cod piece and then to the holster webbed belt to keep them tucked and loosening your girth belt to allow it to drop a little.

Also, if those knees feel a tad tight, you could go up to a medium size and I'll just trade you once I can get a pair assembled.

Two questions: how'd you connect your armor (to the vest and the jumpsuit) and how'd you connect the jetpack?

Cruzer - Once again, big thanks to you!! I'll definitely look into that idea. Shouldn't be to big of an undertaking haha. As far as the knees, the ones I have fit wonderfully but I thank you for the offer! I actually had to pad them up to them to fit a little tighter.

thatguy - The armor is connected to the vest via snaps. Cruzer did it for me using the method in his thread here: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f28/jango-build-member-51906/index2.html. The thighs are not connected to the flightsuit at all; they are held by the leather straps using a chicago screw. The knees are snapped onto elastic straps that run through button holes and around my leg. I added a little velcro to the flightsuit keep them from sliding. The shines are held similarly to the knees, using two straps. The jetpack is connected via two 1" webbing straps that run from my MOW harness through my vest, through the backplate slots. I have male parachute buckles on the ends coming out of the vest and female buckles coming from the jetpack. These female buckles are again attached to 1" webbing straps that run through two slots I cut into the back of the jetpack. I secured the straps onto a round bar that extends from one slot to the other on the inside to distribute the weight.

I know all that is really, really wordy... I'll post photos this weekend of everything described above. That'll make better sense of it. Otherwise, I'm sure there are other threads on here that show this really well, if you need some references in the meantime.

No problem, and you are more than welcome to ship just the cod and holster belt/d-ring assembly (basically remove all the unnecessary parts to fit a smaller box) to me and I'll happily fix that up for you. I'll even cover return shipping for not anticipating that. [emoji106]

So after getting jealous of shinier Jangos out there... I gave mine a good shine. Between heavy weathering and getting rained on a time or two, it became pretty dull looking.

I first had at it with #0000 steel wool. To get rid of the streaks from the wool, I applied a coat or two of Mother's Aluminum polish. Using the Mother's wasn't getting the result I wanted, so I switched to a Cape Cod Metal Polishing Cloth that I had lying around for my uniform belt buckles. I used this on the bucket, and it worked brilliantly. Much quicker, less messy, and shinier result (though, this may be because I have 4 years of experience with Cape Cod cloths). I'll be using it on the rest of Jango in the future, as I still have some work to do.

I'll eventually have to apply more weathering, as most of it came off with the steel wool.
