Detail on Flamethrower

This has been bugging me for a while.
I recently cropped and rotated this picture:

For a better look at the flamethrower. The final image is this:

This is nice for seeing what pieces are painted what color and so on, but I can't help seeing this yellow stripe on the divider piece:

To me, it almost looks like a piece of masking tape stuck to the flamethrower. Maybe it's a reflection of the ground or something, but it's so perfectly rectangular and isn't seen on any of the other metal parts. What do you guys think?

Apologise for de-railing this thread slightly, though my question is on topic...

Re: detail on the flamethrower, is there a definitive answer to how the tanks are supposed to look? I've seen a majority look like this with the ridges. This is from The Builder's fantastic thread. Granted, it's 2018 but I have seen more recent flamethrowers with these tanks:

Reason I ask, is I got my gauntlets and flamethrower kit from NeoFett and the tanks don't have the ridges, they're smooth as pictured here:

Is it one of those areas of the costume where references are so hard to decipher that it's just down to interpretation or is one more accurate than the other? Just curious.

Yea pretty much. The ridges are left over from that FettPride thought he saw but upon further investigation they do look pretty smooth.

The ESB flamer has such bad reference material much of it is just up to interpretation. I wouldn't say there is any solid proof that they are smooth, but also no solid proof they have ridges. I'd say its more likely to be smooth based on what we can see with modern images but until a better picture comes along who knows for sure.

I'd say masking tape too. Kind of looks like it has the texture of it too. Could also be a painted and weathered line though.

Doesn't appear to have much dimension to it whatever it is.

Awesome, thank you for your response. I want to be clear as well, I was in no way calling your kit into question, it's fantastic. I was more just curious about the differences I'd seen.
