Greetings, vodes!
I've been reading the forums for months now, and have spent a lot of time contemplating the Mando armor I want to design. I'm just now working up the nerve to actually reach out to others for help and advice as I prepare to get started on my armor. Besides, it'll be the perfect winter project.

I'm creating the armor for my own Mandalorian character. I'm no longer certain what era he's from, but he's Jedi-trained, and his parents were Mandalorian. He's a fringer, has a ship, does smuggling and bounty hunting jobs, and largely only wants to be left alone. His lightsaber is crafted from some Beskar he managed to obtain. The bio is still a work in progress, so bear with me if some of its a bit lame...

I want to make the helmet first, as I feel the rest of the armor should be built around it. I was thinking of using the Rubies Boba, though I've read on here that it's pretty small. I'm not very big (I'm 5'8", 150 pounds or thereabout), so I thought it might still work for me, but what would all of you recommend? Oh, and here's a picture of the coloring I want for the helmet:

Also, could anyone point me to a thread or page that has a list of tools and other things that I'll need for working on the helmet? I've seen threads that have mentioned one tool or another, and haven't found a comprehensive list yet.

After asking all of my questions, I'll show you all a picture of the one thing I have been able to start on: the lightsaber, which I started building earlier this year with interlocking pieces of heavy piping. Here's a picture of it so far:

If you don't have a dremmel or simmilar tool you should go buy one now. You will love it to death. You don't HAVE to have one but it will make your life easier.
My only problem with your saber is that it is going to be really heavy not that its a bad thing. But it might be a pain to have on your waist for long periods of time especialy if it is bounceing when you walk.

The first 'parts' saber I made was done from pvc. You can buy a short piece of tubing that just goes over half of it. and then a couple pvc, some couplers, and a 1/2 to 1 1/2 inch coupler makes a great emitter nozzle.

You can do the whole thing for about 12 bucks. Go to home depot, and just walk through the plumbing dept, and put stuff together till you like it.

Thanks for the tip about the dremel, Z-man! I'll go looking for one.

Yeah, it's pretty heavy hilt, and when I was putting it together, I knew that was the case, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea of having a hilt with some heft (it struck me - no pun intended - from a lore perspective that a Mando might want to have both the blade and the hilt as potential weapons at his disposal). I hear you about having it hang from a belt for long periods of time...I'm not looking forward to it myself, so I'm thinking about alternative ways of carrying it.

Thanks for the suggestion, Stormrider! This one came about just like that (a friend and I had an afternoon without classes last spring, and we wandered around for a couple of hours - a fun outing!). I'll have to make another trip sometime to try your idea, and make a second hilt.

This is something I have been wanting to try. You might be able to make a holster of sorts for your saber that attaches to some pice of your leg armor.
