New Hunter
Greeting all, wow, there is a plethora of talented individuals on this forum. I live in Tennessee and am active duty military. I have been wanting to do a costume for some time now and finally am getting to the point where I can take on the endeavor. I plan on acquiring a lot of the pieces myself and sending them to professionals to do the paint job for now. I would absolutely love to do it myself but I am not artistically inclined. Any advice into some vendors would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking at purchasing some stuff from Man of War Studios. Real excited to begin this journey and will gladly accept tips/tricks of the trade. Thanks all.

Keep an eye on the cargo hold and you'll find some good deals. Since you're new you wont be able to post in the cargo hold but you can still PM the sellers. Most of the parts if not all of the parts for ESB and ROTJ can be found from venders here. Before you buy something always check here first as some venders on ebay are recasters and have generally poor quality to their recasts. MOW is a member here and hes one of the few on ebay that is recommended. Many people on here have used his work and it is great quality. Do you know which version you'd like to do? Also welcome to the forum and good luck on your build!

You will need to have 50 posts and be a member for 90 days I think before you can post in the cargo hold. You can pm people that are selling things but you won't be able to post in their threads

Thanks for the tips and heads up. Yeah I'm looking at ESB build for starters. It's my favorite movie and Fett doesn't get bogarted by Han lol. I've been glued to Cargo Hold since I became a member. A lot of incredibly talented people, and everyone is incredibly friendly (something you don't see in forums often). I appreciate the help thanks.

Welcome to the forums. READ A TON. Do your research before spending time and money. When you begin to get your parts I would encourage you to try to paint some of it. Many of the parts have stencils that you can follow and achieve good results with some time and patience.

Enjoy your time in the hobby.

Which aspect of the ensemble would you recommend starting on? I would vote maybe the shoulders as it is primarily one color haha. I would like to attempt the entire armor aspect myself and see what I can do. I'd also like looking into weathering the flight suit. Do you have suggestions on the easier parts to work on with your experience? Thanks for the reply.

I've noticed that this forum is unique that the people are all so extremely helpful and friendly and it's nice to see. I can't offer any paint advice myself as I haven't tried doing my own paint. That being said Mullreel is right about reading as much as you can. Study the gallery photos and read paint threads and ask questions whenever something isn't clear. One of the things you'll see about the ESB shoulders is that they are mostly two colors each shoulder is actually different. One is yellow and the other more orange and the knees are the same way.

The chest armor is a good place to start. One thing to remember is that it is just paint. If you mess up you sand it off and do it again. I have repainted parts of armor and helmets several times before I am happy with it. It is a bit frustrating at times but you will learn fast. Once you get down how to use the stencils and masking fluids the process gets easier. I have painted a few sets of armor, a couple of Boba helmets and about four Jango helmets. Your skills will improve quickly I swear.

Weathering is another thing. I like the flight suit to look nice and dirty. When doing it you just add small amounts at a time until you get where you want to be.

Look through WIP threads and such and you can learn from other peoples trial and error.

Thanks all for the tips again. I'm excited to start working on these pieces when I get back from this deployment, should be a good activity to unwind. I've been reading a ton already and never realized how much thought goes into it. It makes the costume/outfit more meaningful.
