I'm just wrapping up my Pre Vizsla costume from The Clone Wars. The armor is largely the same as Jango's, style / assembly wise, so I did the strapping based on references found in here.

So feeding the straps through the suit and back out the other side to the armor... is it really this awkward? I was fishing my hands down my pants, up the legs, and all over the place. I was able to get it all, and once secured it looked good, but it was a pain!

Is there any clever trick to doing it more easily? I was considering sewing the straps to the insides of the suit so that they'd be in the right position.

Also, do you typically wear under armor type pants, or do you just have the straps on your legs. I'm concerned about comfort, so I think I'll be wearing some heat gear underarmor.

Anyway, more looking for real-world trooping experience than anything else. My Boba suit is easy... no leg armor 'cept for the knees, and those have nice straps right on the outside!

Short Answer - I can't dress myself, lol. The girth belt needs to be laced up by someone and the whole harness/jetpack system also requires assistance. I also need help clipping my gauntlet hoses to my jumpsuit and putting the gauntlets on.

As for the specific problems you asked -

Leg straps there are a couple of ways to do this. Some people actually put their straps through and snap them onto the armor before putting the pants on. Then they slide their legs through the elastic. I don't do it this way because of tightness and strap twisting. The way I do it is with a special tool I made. I made a curved piece of styrene strip and put a snap on the end of it. I stick the piece of styrene through the leg holes and out the other side. I then snap the elastic to the styrene strip, then pull it back through the leg to the other side and snap the elastic into place on the armor. I can do all that by myself.

As for under armour, I wear a full suit of under armour just like a TK (or my Clone). It helps immensely with the sweating. It keeps the sweat from pooling, thereby avoiding wet spots on your jumpsuit. I'm not a sweaty guy but the first time I put my jumpsuit on w/o under armor I noticed the sweat started to pool in the elbow and knee pits. It didn't look or feel very good, but the under armour solved that problem.

Thanks! I love the idea of the armor tool. I think I'll have to do that!

Speaking of snaps... I ended up doing velcro, since I couldn't get the snaps to actually stick to the armor well enough. I think my problem is that I was using line 24 snaps, the really heavy heavy duty ones. The snaps held stronger than the bond of glue to plastic and metal. What do you use on yours? I suspect the velcro will fail me at some point.

BTW, I just made my harness based on your old post about the Home Depot lifting belt. I had one around the house already and it worked out great! Sucks in my gut AND holds my pack

I know with my Boba if I HAVE to dress myself Im flexable enough to do it but feeding straps for the JP and getting the JP onto the rings is pretty tough if you arch back with it on a couch its doable but wearing it at CV?

Yeah I use line 20 snaps. I haven't had any of them pop off. I believe its the Cruzer method I use. I rough up the female snap w/ 60 grit, put a bead of high quality CA glue on the bottom and glue it down. Then I use CA thick/gel glue and put tons of glue all around the base of the snap. An alternative would be using Devcon (or similar) 2 part 5 minute epoxy. They are very strong, though a lot messier.

For the home depot harness make sure you make the straps tight enough. Initially mine were not tight enough and the jetpack sagged. I fixed it by making the straps tighter and now its fine (although its more difficult to put it on).

I found a small handful of line 20 snaps and that's definitely it. i'll have to pick up another bag and redo them. for now, my armor is really just permanently attached to the vest.

it's a version one... I should expect issues

Still got a few days of prep time for C5 though, plenty of time!

o.O umm i'm working on an OS Jango and unlike you guys i'm attaching all my armor via bolts...well except for the knees, boot armor and gauntlets...i find it easier that way its a bit uncomfortable when you first put it on but after like 5 mins you kinda get use to the feeling of those bolts of your skin and after a while longer you really don't wanna do it any other way just so you can have that feeling of metal to this point its obvious i don't wear an under suit thats mainly because to me its a bit unrealistic to wear it,i mean why would you protect the suit from weathering it self a bit and giving you that unique flare that makes it your own
