Sideshow Premium Format ESB Boba Fett

jbdubz

Active Hunter
Well after just under a year, wait NOPE (sorry just checked my actual order and i placed this order in October of 2014), 16 months of waiting, multiple shipping time delays and a handful of emails back and forth with SS Support about the difference between the absolutely amazing prototype that Alex (spideyfett) painted and what they posted as the final production piece, my Christmas present to myself finally arrived today!

Once I get home this evening and pour a nice glass of Jameson, lets get down to business and see if SS has turned a new page or followed suit with their recent trend of disappointing end results. More to come soon!

I am thinking of getting this. Post some pics when you can.

i was so stoked when i saw the prototype but when i saw the production piece and an ROTJ mythosaur skull on an ESB Boba, along with other obvious differences, my stokedness turned into skepticism. i guess we shall see!

do an unpackaging, i wanna see how everything is put together. none of it it supposedly wearable, but im still curious.

definitely not wearable. unless you are about 18" tall, then it may fit. lol its not the life size Fett brother, just the premium format, larger than the 1/6 scale.

I will withhold judgement until it's out of the box. It the flightsuit cloth or painted on?

first the accessories...
not the worst jetpack i've ever seen but whats with the odd light brown weathering around the piano keys? oh well, great decals, i guess painting a red and black stripe was asking too much.

ESB-esque cape, maybe they had an old MOW cape as a reference? zero weathering.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455852398.156258.jpg

EE3's. i cant believe I'm saying this but the ROTJ looks better than the ESB. both have an odd direction of the stocks but the ESB is lumpy and the scope is crooked. that sling is way too long.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455852742.159741.jpg

some interesting parts, an ROTJ stripe on an ESB anti-security blade. some kind of cut off distorted sonic beam weapon, at least they went the Paterson route but wait, lets mix it up with the knife.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455853099.635206.jpg

probably the most accurate piece to the statue, only because it is completely made up and isn't in any type of reference pics, the stand. actually pretty cool.

now on to the meat and potatoes...

don't count these eggs before they hatch Joey, the next couple posts will outline some pretty glaring disappointments with Sideshow Collectible's/Hot Toys' most recent attempt at Boba Fett.

the helmet.
at first i was actually quite satisfied. the sculpt was pretty good and even seemed to capture that infamous/unconfirmed/controversial/everyone argues about it/it's totally there Andy...flare [emoji8]
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455855382.818845.jpg

then i took a closer look.

WHAT ARE THOOOOOOOSE??????
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455855595.542247.jpg
JESUS! the turn signals are almost as big as the ones on my FPH2!

moving on. the paint job on the helmet is decent, the cat scratch isn't angled properly but the back panels are pretty OK.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455855900.293873.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455855917.704895.jpg

the killstripes are pretty goo.... wait... WHAT THE HELL IS THAT??????
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455856124.023166.jpg
seriously??? everything was somewhat decent and you paint a silver X over decent kill stripes like a 5 year old with a paintbrush??? WHY SS/HT WHYYYYY??? reminiscent of some Rubie's Supreme BS.
superjedi, seriously Eric, how much to repaint this bucket??? repeat customer discount??? lol

i need another glass of Jameson.

Man that big X is ridiculous. Too bad spideyfett isn't here anymore. I would ask him why they would have him do a great job on the prototype then totally change the paint scheme and screw the whole thing up. This is what would happen if the efx lid ever comes out, and in sure the anovos one would fall victim to cheap Chinese paint work as well.
I think I am going to pass on this statue. I bet some of the prop builders here could do a better job of making a statue.

sorry for the delay. spent the past half hour adjusting the girth belt since it was installed inside out. awesome.

so now like the wafer at communion, the body of Fett...

here's the north south east and west.

anything jump out at you? lets take a closer look...
first and most obvious, the ROTJ Mythosaur skull. but i thought this was ESB? Says on the sale page that "Sideshow's artists have captured every detail of the infamous Boba Fett", "...in Bespin's Cloud City", "...down to the last detail".

i must have missed the reference pictures from Cloud City where the ROTJ Mythosaur was used... @RaffalFett, we may need a ruling here.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455860436.746660.jpg

how about that feather? i don't think horizontal is accurate, but maybe studying reference pics of ESB for weeks on end has me confused. maybe i'm seeing it wrong...
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455860580.268830.jpg

and from the same picture, anyone notice anything missing????

OH! THERE IT IS! they just installed the wookie braids BACKWARDS!
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455860724.124799.jpg

the girth belt is a bit too red but for the sake of this thread, it's close enough and i'll allow it. what i will call out is this sloppy garbage...
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455861566.406199.jpg

but what are these unfinished looking straps hanging from the backplate? hopefully the jetpack will hide them once attached [emoji90]
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455860825.992582.jpg

did the right gauntlet look like it was a little low on the forearm? no worries, thats just because it came unglued from the flight suit. SUCH QUALITY SS!!!
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455861150.373573.jpg

i will say the boots look quite stellar, weathered up all grimy, just like they should be! but what about the flight suit? not an ounce of weathering. not even one.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455861267.482491.jpg

some things i can definitely appreciate that were correct, the matching direction of the belt pouches, and the two correct grommets on the ammo belt. the knee darts show the correct red and black combination and the keypad rows on the left gauntlet are surprisingly correct, 2 red, 2 blue, one silver. the unweathered flight suit is actually the only thing that was improved from the prototype to production. the original color, though accurately weathered, was too much of a light gray, this is darker and with a blue hue to it, still not the right blue in my opinion but closer than the original prototype. See! it isn't all negative LOL

ok let's see this bounty hunter in his final form, shall we?

i reached out to Alex the day they released the "production photos" and removed his painted prototype from the Sideshow website. he seemed pretty put off too and just like me, had already contacted SS about the over abundance of changes resulting in somewhat fatal mistakes. i received only one response "if you are unsatisfied, you may return it for a full refund". it's a crock of BS Justin. if i hadn't waited 10 months since my first payment, i would send it back. i'm going to contact them for a replacement helmet for sure though. i just wish i had seen what the production piece looked like rather than the hook they cast out with Alex's amazing prototype. i would have laughed at it instead of paying damn near 500$ for it.

Looks like I'll be doing painting when I get mine.......

but for guys like you, i'm sure this is barely even a challenge! you've got skills that pay the bills bruh. but i think i'm going to grab a set of magnifying goggles and give it a go myself. at least the armor, the cape, the flightsuit, the JP, EE3, gauntlet rocket and shin tools. all of those pieces consist of adding paint. that damn silver X needs to be removed! and i'm at a loss since i dont want to risk having to repaint the bucket [emoji853]
