Weathering the spats

Hi guys. I need to weather my spats to be more grey and dirty. What would you say is the best technique for weathering? Thanks.

I had a bit of trouble with this, I think primarily due to the coarse fabric (mine are Arkady, lovely but stiff and thick). I ended using several light treatments of diluted black and brown (applied separately, mostly brown as I'm going for ROTJ) acrylic paint airbrushed onto wet spats. Here's the final (at least until my GML objects):

Just note though, the spats are pretty clean (almost unbelievably so IMO) compared to the boots and bottom of the flight suit in the gallery shots.
