TDH: Tell us a bit about yourself.
GASSER: I am the cofounder of ANOVOS, a relatively new company dedicated to creating high end uniforms from popular movies and television shows like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica. I have a heavy background in information technology, but my passion has always been props and costumes.
TDH: What drew you to the As You Wish Helmet Project?
GASSER: You did when you mentioned that you were going to be heading up this project! We love Make-A-Wish and building props are in our wheelhouse so this was a great opportunity for us to participate in a project that is doing a great thing!
TDH: What was your inspiration for Cylon Fett?
GASSER: ANOVOS has a Battlestart Galactica license and the late Ralph McQuarrie did the concept artwork for both Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica so it's a perfect blend of two scifi juggernauts.
TDH: Tell us a little about the process of creating this helmet.
GASSER: I started with the concept artwork and then began thinking about construction and what parts I would want to change. I took the helmet and did a cardboard mock up. I first started with the Mohawk and then down to the eye and vents. The complete piece is sculpted by hand up using Sintra, Epoxy, Bondo and LOTS of sanding. The Chrome process was done by using the Alsa Killer Chrome spray paint (This stuff is not easy to use btw).
TDH: Now that the helmet is finished, if there is one thing you could change or do differently, what would it be?
GASSER: I would have made the range finder top thicker and would have spent more time with the paint. We had a number of massive setbacks with the paint that required us to do a complete stripping of the paint at the last minute.
TDH: With your helmet finished, what is your next project?
GASSER: Clean my garage, get some sleep and beg my wife for forgiveness.
