    FIRST BF ARMOR x2

Hey TDH- In between work, the enterum from my Jango build, and some motivation from devilstar and the wonderful get-up he created for his son, I decided to embark on some ROTJ armor for my little guy (whos is only 13 months as of today : ) ...You know, get a head start what more could a little boy want right ? After cutting the 4'1" set, I realized that I actually wanted the 3'1" well, so now he will have two sets of armor. Anyhow the images below are what ive completed over the last 4 days. I first, purchased the paints that were recommended on some of the threads here on tdh (ofcourse primer, metallic, hunters green and a mustardish/ squashy yellow), along w/ some sterilite storage bins. After a few days, a blister on my phalanges, as well as sore intrinsic muscles of the hands "WALLAH", here they are so far. Let me know what your thoughts are guys.

Hey all- Just started the weathering w/ the references I have from AOSW armor. After the two layers of metalic had cured I used toothpaste to mask the nics and battle marks as recommended by faroshuffle. I then sprayed the 1st coat of squash/ mustard yellow and tomorrow I plan to spray a second.

Hey guys- Completed some work on the shoulder bells minus the decals which are being shipped thanks to Lucky31. After letting the coat of metallic dry for 24hrs, masking the metal w/ toothpaste, and finally laying a couple coats of line stripe yellow here are the results. And ofcourse, my son (13 months) had to earn some stripes : ). Let me know your thoughts.
    Thanks guys!

Alright- SO i've completed the chest armor weathering minus the decals, as well as cut, glued (E600), and clamped the cod pieces to dry overnight. Im pretty happy w/ how the toothpaste turned out (Crest ultra white to be exact), although it was a little thick. Today I plan on using some bondo for the seams followed by sanding then primer.

Since its for a little one, I wouldn't bother with the seams... Plus, if that E6k breaks free, the bondo will too. When I did my sons, I did it with E6k as well and it popped up. Might wanna try a stronger adhesive if you are gonna do the works. But then again, you'll probably do a better job than I did.

Hey guys- Cut and molded the back armor using a hair dryer. The sterlite trash cans are much easier to mold than the storage bins. Will primer later in order to set up for masking. Going to use the liquid mask I ordered for the 3' armor.

WOW...Thanks ONEONE! Its been a blast! I was just thinking, how should I attatch the armor, especially the back armor? Im thinking snaps even though the plastic is really lightweight. Any thoughts?

Excellent work..the molding of the plastic looks spot on. I would do snaps...but than again I am biased...they are easy to do and easy to fix if something breaks.

Hey Aceano- Thanks buddy! Yes, as DS said in post #9 the E6k and bondo just do not want to adhese to the plastic. Tomorrow Im going to experiment w/ a thin foam in order to create the seam as seen in the movie accurate versions. Look for pics fairly soon : ). Thanks for looking.

Hey guys-Here is a shot of the set-up so far (4' chest and back armor). As soon as I recieve the masking fluid I will detail the 3' armor, and will complete paint in the next week. I will then complete the 4' cod and back armor using the toothpaste...why the tp you ask well, im ANAL and I cant have it 70% tp and 30% mask fluid : ). Ill keep you updated.

Alright guys- Recieved the masking fluid today, and wow..much better : ). Here are some shots of the 3' armor metalic mask so far, along w/ the 4' yellow back armor mask. Tomorrow Im going to hit the yellow on the 3' and green on the 4'. If all keeps going smoothly, I should be done by mid week. Where are the knees and gaunts and blaster you ask? Well, I plan on getting the knees started following the completion of the upper extremity. For the gaunts and blaster, I have ordered the BF play set which I plan on re-painting etc. Love to hear your thoughts.

Ok- Hit the gaunts w/ primer lastnight and the blaster this morning. Although I neglected to sand up the gaunts and blaster a bit, the primer sticks just fine as Ive experemented on a nerf setup. Both setsof armor recieved the 1st coat of hunter green. Its a bit cool here in Cali (brisk I should say), so im going to let dry until tomorrow. Hope you guys have agreat weekend.

Ok guys- Here are some teasers! Thanks to Lucky31 I recieved a great set of decals. One set of normal size, and one set scaled for the small 3' armor set. Im just about finished w/ the armor minus the knees, jet pack and wookie braids which ive ordered from woody. When the weathering is finished along w/ the blaster I will post some prelim photos...I am EXTREMELY pleased w/ how this is coming together 1st time around!!! Let me know what you guys think.

I'm interested in seeing how this turns out as I'm doing a set for my 2-month old!

Back in the 90's when I was snagging up everything I could, I actually got that toy set for some reason but long ago gave it to my nephew. Wish he still had it now cuz I'd ask for the gauntlets back!

Ok guys... Took the plundge and began the sanding and primering process on the emphamous hasbro lid : ). I first began w/ 120 followed by 220, 320..then 400 in order to give it a smooth finish. In speaking w/ Faroshuffle.. he suggested that after I hit it w/ the 1st coat of primer go back and get the rough/ fuzzy areas w/ 320 and 400 again then rinse and repeat so I will def do that! And just to answer you question..no, im not going to mod the visor as I think w/ the lil guy it adds to the element of bobble-head cuteness : ). Also, the wider visor will prob be better as far as safety is concerned he is after all only 16 months right now. Anyhow, here are a few shots of the process. Let me know what you guys think.

    Pre-sand

Happy Easter guys...Just returned home from Laguna Beach and decided to get the 2nd phase of the sanding and primer done. That being said, I sanded the rough spots w/ 320 followed by 400 and got a phenominally smooth finish! Finished w/ one more coat of primer, and tomorrow will lay a coat of silver. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

Moving right along...Just added the initial coat of metallic silver, and tomorrow will hit it w/ one more light coat then begin masking before using stormtrooperguys rattlecan list. I am actually going to free-hand sketch the ROTJ weathering prior to using the masking fluid ; ).

    Re: FIRST BF ARMOR x2

So, just finished masking the weathering and I have to say guys... for some of the finer details I preferred the toothpaste over the liquid mask. Although I have only used the fluid once before, I dont like the way it runs/ and lies thinner in an inconsistant fashion. That being said, I did like the fluid for some of the "spotting" that is indicative of some of the sections that are thick and have that "honeycomb" appearance such as the right visor and the posterior of the bucket. Here are some pics and I would also like some suggestions w/ regards to paint order? I was thinking..dome, then peel masking and cover w/ newspaper. Next, spray the face, peel masking and cover w/ paper etc.. Any thoughts on this???
    Thanks
    B

Hey guys- The last couple of days have been fairly productive. Upon finishing the masking, I began the paint/ sectioning process (stormtrooperguys list w/ modifications) beginning w/ the dome. Without giving it all away : ), below are a few shots of the WIP! Stay tuned for the completed hasbro ROTJ lid!!!

I completely agree with your decision NOT to modify the visor for safety's sake. The incresed field-of-vision will suit a new walker perfectly; his knees, chest and head will thank you later for not helping him to run into things. It's completely after the fact, but I would have possibly looked into getting rid of the seam on the helmet, but it most suredly does not take away from it's "awesomeness!" I'm not that familiar with the Hasbro lid, but what will you be using for the inside to fit? I would assume that at 13mths it's still a bit large on him. Some of that foam might do the trick. I wish I had more input, but.....to quote, "Your skills are complete."

I'm out in Minnifee this weekend for a baby shower. I'll honk as I go by!

Thanks oboro- The inside is already complete...it has that adjustable insert that they can adjust to fit snugg. LOL..yes, the seam is there and thought about it after the fact as well : ). I will be listening as you go by.
