New Target Boba Fett helmet released

Hi, I picked up one of these today and decided to stop lurking and join up here. Doing a search I see some debate about smoked vs green tint on the visor but I couldn't find how dark they should be. If I want to go smoked/black; would 5‰ tint be dark enough, or should I go for 2.5‰ limo tint?

5% should be enough, that's really dark. Light doesn't enter the helmet, so not much tinting is needed.

Are you planning on applying the tint to the visor or just having a tinted visor behind the transparent visor?

Or maybe just replacing the visor?

I was going to apply the tint behind the clear visor like a car window. Replacing the visor seems like a level of work I'm not prepared for quite yet, but if I keep reading all these threads I see bondo and sintra in my future.

I think I will take the same route. Cheap and easy, as well as quick.

To our German Fans:
Shipping via Reship.com would cost 50$. So the Helmet would come 80 Bucks + tax. I think, this is a little expensive. I contacted Rubies in Germany. Maybe this helmet is only exclusive for a time, but i have to wait for an answer.

Tinted today, I definitely understand why people pay good money to tint their car windows. A few bubbles and such, so not perfect, but fine for $40.00 total. uploadfromtaptalk1442183041953.jpg

Advance auto. I would maybe look for 3M brand tint or spray on taillight tint to do it again. It took 4 tries to get it decent with the off brand stuff they had.

Here's another option for the t-visor. It's a plastic visor tinting tutorial.

What do you guys think?
It could work, but it might not. The visor for the helmet is very non porous, like acrylic. There's not much for the dye to hold to.

Just a warning folks.. The visor is VERY brittle.

I snapped mine pulling it off of the head form and now have to dremel it all out from the inside..There wasn't even any force being applied, just tapped the head and it cracked!

Wish I had done that BEFORE I did all the paint work, but live and learn. Don't make my mistake!!

Hey everyone. Just figured I'd stop by and add my two cents on this helmet. I picked up a few of these these weekend at two different Target stores in the Chicago burbs.

It seems to be just a shade smaller than my helmet, which was originally a Boba Fett Mystery Helmet. I'd agree with what everyone is saying about it. The RF stalk is short, and the visor needs either tinting or replacing. That being said, I'm pretty exciting to mod a few of them and see how it turns out. Worst case, these would be pretty cool for display pieces. Best case, these may be an awesome starting base for custom Mando's.

Here's a link to my album concerning these: Boba Fett Target Helmet by Trevor Kurtz | Photobucket

And if you don't want to look through all of the pics, here's a front on picture of the helmet compared to mine.

I haven't logged on here in YEARS, but I'm looking forward to painting up the one I picked up from Target into a "close-enough ESB" scheme.

This helmet seems like a hell of a deal for the casual Fett enthusiast who wants a cool display piece or decent looking costume. Provided its painted and the visor addressed, that is.

Just don't drop the thing. I highly doubt it'd survive.

I posted this on the RPF but thought I would update here as well:

Update time. :) The cracked visor was taken out today!

A fair word of warning.. a few actually..

The visor is VERY brittle. It originally cracked pulling it off of my head form. (used in above photos) it cracked again with slight flexing of the helmet. If you plan on wearing this thing, you absolutely need to replace the visor. Not only did it crack easily but the shards were sharp! I would not want that breaking anywhere near, or God forbid on, my face.

Second. It is a lot easier to take it out BEFORE you assemble the helmet permanently. I used a dremel and got it about flush to where the visor sat. If there are some gaps between it and the new visor it won't kill me so I'm not too worried.

Third... Slush casting resin will not assemble the helmet permanently. Used 80 grit sand paper to rough it up and slush cast SC320 into it, and it peeled out like no one's business. I have had silicone molds fight me more than this helmets plastic. However, If it's just for display you should be fine. It didn't come out until I really started handling it.

If anyone is getting ready to tackle this I hope this helps... Don't make my mistakes!!
