Question about blaster pic in the archive...

Forgive me if this has been covered before, but until recently I have been away from the board for a few years so I may have missed this, or forgotten it, or been working my way up out of toothy pit in the desert.

Question is what is going on in this pic?

Were these electronics something to do with filming? What was the purpose for them? Lights, smoke, popping out 1-Up mushrooms?

Someone clue me in or point me to the right thread as my search-fu seems to be weak today.

Thanks!!

Going waaay out on a limb here, but........maybe it has something to do with the pyrotechnics when Luke cuts the blaster in half???? :confused

That's what I thought at first! And maybe that explains why Fett reaches his left arm over the stock right before luke cuts it... there looks like a push button or two on the stock so maybe Bulloch/The actor there was pressing a button for the pyrotechnics?

Very curious indeed...

Makes sense. I went and looked at the cut blaster scene and the first thing I noticed was the hand over the stock

And then I looked at some more images in the archive gallery and the blaster does look like it has a cut away in the t tracks on the barrel

However in the scene it appears that the blaster is cut a little further down

Also why the need for LEDs on the controlboard inside the stock?

Seems like there would be a more practical way to do this effect without hollowing out a stock and running wiring up through the rest of the gun. Seems like a pnuematic to shoot off the end on the gun and a spark ejector would do the trick.

It looks like there is a switch and a push button like the ones on the left gauntlet. I would guess the switch arms the device and the push button does the rest. Would love to see this in action to see what it actually does.

Maybe a long shot but I wll be seeing Jeremy tomorrow at Con...I could just ask him if he remembers? :confused he is a chatty guy and may explain what it was for?..

That would be awesome!

Maybe the toggle switch settings were "disintegration / no disintegration" :D

The problem is that Jeremy was only in the Jabba's Palace scenes, while the sail barge/skiff scene were shot with 2 or 3 stunt doubles. But this doesn't mean that you can't ask him about the ROTJ EE-3 blaster.

So I spent some time with Jeremy today and in short.....no idea what its for :confused we touched on the subject a little but reached an impasse I am afraid, I didn't press the subject to much as it would get very confusing and strange after a while :wacko

Sorry fellas I hope it get's worked out to soon

Thanks for asking! That's all you can do. Must've been great hanging with him in costume. I'm really hoping he comes to Dragon Con this year.
