new here! Introduction and question about kid costume

New Hunter
Hi All! I've been poking around for a few days and finally registered so I can introduce myself and ask some questions. My 5-year old son has expressed some interest in a Boba Fett costume (just kidding, he's nagging me like crazy, haha). He is going to be Darth Vader for Halloween and I'm working steadily on that, so I was thinking after Halloween I'd start on Boba Fett for a Christmas present.

I'm leaning towards the trash can method for the body armor, and I'm an experienced costumer so I'm comfortable sewing all the soft parts myself. What I'm looking for is some kind of overall tutorial? Like how the armor is attached to the vest, tips and tricks for fit and comfort, that kind of thing. I've poked around here and been completely amazed at the amount of patterns and templates!! I'm really excited to work on this but would love to familiarize myself with the typical "build."

Thanks in advance!

Theres no 1 how to put together a Fett...but I guess thats another thing (put all how to's into 1 thread) we could sticky at the top of the page...theres all kinds of how to's though. Theres a link at the top of this page on how to use magnets to attach the armor...it works pretty well but bolts also work for this...and is cheaper. Take a look at other members WIP threads and see what they have done with theirs...lots of those to look at.

Welcome...I've actually done 2 for my son (4 1/2) using trash can. If I were to do it again I'd go the EVA foam route hands down. The younglings are very hard on them and could care less about whether it's cannon or not ; )...there is a great foam tutorial in here somewhere so I'll locate and post for you.

Here's one using EVA foam. Although its not the kids armor, it should provide some insite... I have attached the Ironman Mark VI I built using EVA.... Get the coating right and your good to go. good luck(y).

I used several different people on this site to build 2 different fetts. I built a Jango for my daughter when she was 5 and a Boba for my son when he was 7. PM me and I will send you some pictures of the costumes and a list of people to contact for "child" size items.
