I've got the outer earcap finished:
And I've started a scratch built RF topper. I want to finish up the ESB helmet I started
I started off with the WoF template, and then modified it down to the MR size. The WoF one was anout 1/4" longer and a bit less than an 1/8" taller.
Now I've got to bondo it up!

Making a mold of the entire assembly and then carving it up seemed to work well... it's a great way to preserve the look but fix the oddness with how the original was molded.
I've got a container of smoothon's aluminum resin stuff to make some ears out of once I'm confident. It's pre-mixed with the powder for the perfect coldcast look.
Once I get everything tuned just right I'll break it out!

BTW, the aluminum stuff from smoothon, is what I got, it is more of a nickel than aluminum. I also did not like the results. I buy my power from http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZpkunlimited I have had good luck with it. Just remember to wear something to protect your lungs. Breathing in the power is not good. Cruzer found that you will need over 100% power per resin!

the somewhat scratch built RF topper is done, i hope.
i demolded this morning and poured one on my way out. i have a couple of bubbles in the silicone that i'm not real happy with, but they are really minor... not worth remaking the mold over.
here's hoping it comes out well.
i did something heretical last night while i was waiting for silicone to set:
it's painted, not rub n buffed. i was curious how it would look as a jango, and i have that pile of misfits.
this one has about 2 pounds of bondo in the dome... the whole top was flat. i demolded it too soon, and while pulling the rubber off, i actually flattened the dome a bit.

haha! this one i don't think i could wear though. it's too flat on the inside. my chin would stick out the bottom by a good inch. it's pretty to display though. i may peel the pinstripes off and give it some rub n buff. not sure though... i may also just leave it as is!

i probably will buff it. the more i look at it, the more i'd like to see it done up that way.
my only concern is that the surface is anything but smooth. it's actually more sort of... um... moonlike?
i don't know that i'll be able to even get much of a shine on it.

Is that painters tape on the earcap screen accurate?
Lol love the work you have done... have you got any hi def/detailed pics of those scratches you made on the helmet, as im planning on doing those to my Bobamaker helmet once it gets here.. Im guessing you did those with a dremel cutting disk?
I did my first helmet in 2 days, using Tamiya Aerosols, and it didnt look as good as that... Kudos to you my friend
But yeah if you have any hi def pics of those scratches and can send them my way thatd be great dude
