Painting shin tools.

Hey guys is there a specific way everyone likes to paint their shin tools? Also what colours they'd use.

I'd like to steer clear from my humbrol collection as I want to save those paints for my bucket.

Thanks.

What was your painting method for your items?

first I spray painted two coats of silver on all the tools.

Then I used masking tape around the areas I wanted to paint and used spray paint for the squeegee and anti-security blade. For the large black stripe on the anti-security blade I used electrical tape when I was done painting. on the squeegee I did some hand painting on the top part where you see the little curve.
for the knife/chemical mixer it was just maskol and yellow paint.

are you doing all four shin tools or just two ?

Three, the JP adjustment tool is all aluminium and I'm just going to scratch it up.

Can I see some photos of your tools/paints used?

sure.

Raw shin tools.

And afterwards masking off and painting.

I just had some cheap .88 cent gold paint from AC Moore kicking around that I used on it and coated it with Testor's semi flat to protect it.
it.

These are mine. Scratchbuilt from WoFs templates years ago out of layers of styrene and bondo glazing putty.

All silver is cheapo rattlecan from Wal-Mart. Coloring on the knife was from using a mix of different Games Workshop colors/washes.

I'll try and get some gold paint, would you suggest misting of brown on the Gold too?

There's a few Games Workshops in Australia, what kind of paints did you use? Also enamel or acrylic?

Acrylic.

The colors I used were Burnished Gold and Dwarf Bronze with a Chestnut Wash. That being said however I believe GW/Citadel has changed the names on their paints a couple of times since I did these so these names are probably not valid any more.

Here is a chart that may show you the equivalents from the old names to the new.

The Chestnut Wash was even older than the paints so it may not be on the list. The Chestnut wash is kind of a tan or sepia tone.

Lynn your JetPack adjustment tool looks great! What size is the pipe u used if u don't mind me asking?

1/2" PVC pipe cut to fit shin pocket.

You could I guess, I didn't. I just used silver dry brushed on the gold to give it worn look.

Anyone know the best way to make those patterns on the squeegee.
I've been having some trouble and thought stencils would work but it screwed up.
