My Ideas for the Metal Replica Webley

HS has really produced a great replica of the Webley but I see a few areas that could be improved upon.


His version consists of 3 parts:

- Frame/Stock Bracket

- Back Plate

- Chamber and Barrel

This is a great idea but due to a recent discovery it is not necessary to cast the Stock Bracket or the Right Grip.

Chris Thevas recent found a maker that sells very accurate replicas of these parts and it comes with a mahogany stock as well.

Unfortunately the HS version is cast as one piece and he has said it will be labor intensive to remove the right grip and the stock bracket.

But I have asked David Meyer if he is interested in casting the Frame and the Back Plate for us.

It should not cost that much yet it will have one great advantage over a single piece unit, if you have the frame separate from the bracket and right grip you could always replace it with a real gun frame if you happened to find one.

It is also nice to have separate parts as it is more accurate and easier to weather.




Now Back to the replica Stock Assembly.

I have worked out a deal with Hassanand Hemandas & Co to place a bulk order of their Webley Stock/Bracket/Grip assembly.

Since HS's grip assembly also includes the trigger assembly and part of the frame, would these two even be compatible without have to cut HS's up and sanding down the right side of the grip?

BD, will HH&C sell only the stock? What are they made of? I belive the real Webley's stocks were made of mahogany.

HS's bronze cast will come with a finished wood stock. If your getting one from him, you wouldn't need to buy the stock and bracket from Hassanand Hemandas & Co .

David Meyer has agreed to look at the Frame and the Backplate to determine if he can cast is for a very reasonable price.

HS has stated that he can remove the right grip and the stock bracket from his wax masters but he said the frame is thin (to save weight) so it may not be that strong and it would cost just as much since it is labor intensive to remove said parts.


If David casts the frame it will be like the original so strength will not be an issue and his shouldn't cost as much and the one piece version that HS is offering.

I am not trying to take anything away from HS, I am just offering an alternative that will save him a lot of work.

I ask him if he wanted to cast just the frame and he was not interested.

The H&H Stock looks like it is made from Mahogany and from the pictures it looks very accurate.

I can not quote any prices yet but I am sure they will be reasonable.

I don't think you understood what I was trying to convey. When I cast the piece from the mold the walls are thin to save weight... yes - but only because no internal frame is neccesary to bolt things onto them. If I am to cut away the bracket and grip, then all I do is reinforce the void where it was cut... making it stronger than a real one.

In all honesty, BD is right in saying I'm not entirely interested in putting up the extra work to cut the waxes up to seperate parts. It's pretty easy to re-mold the frame and cast it but I made the first Webley for myself, to costume and display with, so I made it how I wanted it.
I borrowed the real MK1No1 from a friend, and although he is very generous, I feel like I asked him for enough already by molding the unit the first time.

If this is a project that is truely worth the time, then I might just cast the frame, but not for just ten orders. By next Friday I will have a complete Mk1No replica... like the one I will offer for all to see and judge themsleves.

Just to give you all a heads up on those replica stock/bracket things--They aren't 100% compatible with the N0 1 MK 1 flare pistol. The one I have is missing the holes on the back side of the brass grip, therefore it doesn't sit on the handle at all (unless you drill the holes yourself). The bracket works alright. Mine has a bit of a ding around the L part of the bracket, so it doesn't seat properly on the flare pistol either. It wouldn't take much to fix it though. But yeah, it is a beautiful stock/bracket piece.

The corners of the right grip are pointy compared to the shape of the frame.

I had to sand mine to make it fit.
