Miniatures to props, difficult?

Hey everyone.

I hope this isn't something that's been asked numerous times before, but I was wondering if anyone has any insight on transitioning from miniature/sculpture sculpting to prop work.
Is it hard, is it something that happens frequently, has anyone already done this?

At the moment I have a number of years experience in miniature sculpture and a few pro pieces, it's something I enjoy, but I am wondering if it's worth taking one step further and branching out a little as prop building is something that interests me.
