i was told a walkie-talkie mic/speaker would work for speaking/listening
but i don't know how that would work?

I dont know much about mic systems and such, but you should look around radio shack and get some ideas and test things out. Skullworx.com has a speaker and AMP setup, but its for Tk buckets.
