Jason Wingreen Audio Project

Eagle

New Hunter
I want to start this thread by saying two things. First, Temaura Morrison is a great actor, and I love him as Boba Fett. He has a genuine love for the character of Boba, as well as Jango and the clones. So this isn't a critique of him being inserted into ESB. Second, I am by no means an audio expert, but I wanted to make something as a proof-of-concept at least, so that an actual audiophile here can maybe make this a reality!

That being said, I am a purist. I think Jason Wingreen's four lines in ESB are some of the most iconic in Star Wars. And truthfully, he sounds ruthless and mean, which is how you would expect a cold-blooded bounty hunter to sound.

All I want is audio files of the four lines without music, Vader breathing, or footsteps, mainly for a sound glove when I'm trooping. I know there have been similar projects in the past, but technology has come a long way, especially AI.

So I tried making an AI Jason Wingreen voice, anddddd, it wasn't good... I was inspired by a Battlefront 2 modder who used AI to rerecord all of Boba's lines in-game. He didn't do a half-bad job, but it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. So I am scrapping that idea, but I'll put a link here if anyone was curious:

So once the AI idea flopped, I turned to using tools to isolate Wingreen's voice in the original clips. Throughout my research, a saying kept appearing: "You can't unbake a cake." That's definitely true, especially when it comes to voice lines that were recorded sometime in the late 70s. But I still tried, and I think I got pretty darn close to something. If anything, it gave me a glimmer of hope that an audio expert here can make this happen. Because if I can do this, I can only imagine what an expert could do.

Thank you to BFFC, where I download the unaltered audio files!

  1. "As you wish," arguably the most iconic of the four lines, proved to be the most challenging. Removing Vader breathing seems almost impossible. This is one I'm particularly looking for help on.
  2. "He's no good to me dead," came really good; you can still hear some background audio, but it's negligible.
  3. "What if he doesn't survive? He's worth a lot to me," came pretty close to perfect; you can barely hear where the background noise is being covered up.
  4. "Put Captain Solo in the cargo hold," turned out nearly perfect in my opinion.
Here is a link to the audio files:

Let me know what you think! Thanks in advance!

Tom

PS. No, I am not including the Wilhelm scream from ROTJ in this project!
