Jango paint question

Hey all! I have the proper paints for the cheeks and mandibles on the way, and I've seen that most people "paint" the rest of the helmet with rub and buff.
Do the parts that are rub and buffed need to be painted first with primer or should it be applied directly to the cast? Is the armor all rub and buffed as well?

Armor is all sanding + rub and buffed (check out Seeker rub n buff tutorial) (unless you've gotten a cold-cast armor set, which I would recommend, but it is more expensive)
