Is the crack in chest piece canon or damage post production?

Malkavian

Hunter
Anyone else noticed the crack in the bottom left of the chest armour from the D23 pictures. Is this crack canon? Does anybody make their armour with this crack? I added a crack to mine but now i doubting it.

Could you be a little more specific on where you're seeing this? By D23 I'm inferring you mean the pre-Beskar armor (S1E1), in which case the best images I've seen are in the TDH media library. By "left" do you mean wearer's or viewer's left? The bandolier obscures some of the chest plate but I'm not seeing any cracks, just a lot of fine scratches and multiple layers of paint/weathering.

Correct chapter 1 or 2 armour. When facing the costume it's the viewers left or Din's right plate

Ok, doubtful there are any clear screenshots due to that spot being hidden behind the bandolier most of the time, but the D23 photos show that the "crack" (a) doesn't physically break the finish surface, and (b) has the same layered paint finish as other "damaged" aread of the chest plate (see attached). So I would say it's highly likely that it was there when used on screen.

Not so sure about that crack damage being painted on. Agree with the assessment that because of the location we probably don't/won't see any screenshots anywhere, but I'm not convinced that it's painted damage. Malkavian's photo lends itself to an actual break in the facing surface of the chest plate. The upper portion of the crack show's what looks to be actual depth and a real separation as opposed to the painted on damage. Your photo with the different lighting/color also shows this near the top of the crack, while the lower portion shows what looks to be paint that has chipped off near the edge of the crack as is representative of what would occur with layered paint jobs and actual separation of a flat face that's been painted. At the end of the day does it matter? Probably not for club acceptance, none of the approvals I went through for my S1 Pre-Beskar suit even hinted at it, and again it's really hidden 99.9% of the time. Now for the uber devoted purists does it need to be added, I'd say dealer's choice because in the end it's about what you want and what extent you're willing and able to go to. Good hunting.
