Helmet sizing question

Hey guys wanted to get some advice on helmet sizes. I'm a small guy at 5'6" and I'm concerned about looking like a bobble head.

Any advice on what helmets would be good for me and which ones absolutely not?

Typically, your helmet should be about 1/2 the length your shoulders would be with shoulder bells. :)

Interesting, was that his V3 helmet? I've been wanting to see a BM but I don't have the money to drop on one just for the sake of looking. There doesn't seem to be any in depth comparative info on the BM out there.

GMH is going to be your best bet and like Fett 4 Real said it's typically best to buy from here. Very few venders sell quality stuff at other places but some do and you will see them recommended for some stuff. Always research and check about a vender here before you buy.

Ok, forgive my ignorance. This is something I guess I should know being a member here for so long. But why is the GMH smaller? Don't they all essentially come from the same mold from way back in the day?

Here is an older thread about it and has some comparisons from FP of the GMH and FPH2 sizes.

Pretty much the consensus I have found during my research is that it is generational decay, each generation has slightly shrunk. Polyester, epoxy, Urathane and etc, all have some shrinkage when they cure (and different shrinkage values). Sort of like a Boba Fett Shrinky Dink over time. Also there are a lot of unknowns which are stated in this article:

I think the idea that the GMH original and the buck coming from the exact same mould is a theory rather than a fact because there doesn't seem to be concrete proof for or against. Both the GMH and the buck have issues but the GMH original appears to have more issues than the buck. I spent a lot of time trying to work through the considerations but without rehashing it all I would say that this RPF thread covers most of the necessary ground with page 2 and the conversation [largely] between Art and Ryan making the most interesting reading. It doesn't prove anything one way or the other but it does compliment the original articles wonderfully.

Ultimately I came to the conclusion that when comparing the two it didn't really matter if they were of the same generation or not and what was more important was the various qualities of each helmet, size being only one of those differences. Apart from overall size the most noticeable difference is in the dome and the pictures of the GMH make plain that it had sunk in so this was the area that FP would have needed to have made considerable effort in his restoration; the dome of the buck seems far fuller in shape than the restored GMH helmets [and obviously the original GMH]. There also doesn't seem to be a common shrinkage factor i.e. it doesn't seem to be the case that the GMH helmets are 'X' % smaller than the buck but seem to have their own unique proportions. Either way the GMH might suit the requirements of the OP.
