First Scratch Build Bucket

Hello All, Im a new member here on this amazing site, been a long time Star Wars fan but first time building up a costume like this before. Ive done the whole jedi thing but really who hasnt, so when i stumbled upon this site i figured id start making our favorite bounty hunter. Ive had the drive to learn armor making techniques for a while now, and when i saw Antmans cardboard build, Well that was all the insentive i needed. I started to work right away, although i didnt have the proper materials. I found some art pads that had similar cardboard backings, so i started with the ear pieces to get aquainted with the material. I then found the cardboard i need at an art supply store and started on my first bucket =]. And so far I have been loving every minute of it!!! To see it come together just brings a smile to my face every time i see it, its all thanks to this amazing community here at TDH.

I have some progress pics of the bucket, for thats when i started taking pictures. And I plan to eventually make an entire scratchbuild costume, it will be a good starter for me, since i dont have the funds for a high end costume.

Just an update of my progress, got the key slot added to the bucket, and made the RF. I then taped on all the pieces to see what it will look like, and looking good so far. I seem to be having trouble with the dome though if you can notice. Ive been using a wall filler, which has been working fine for the most part, but seems to be a little unresponsive on the dome. Very hard to get an even surface, is this a problem everyone faces, or could it be the materials im using? Would Bondo be a better choice? One last question, about the visor, im trying to keep this a really inexpensive scratch build, and i plan on using the face shield method for the visor. Now ive found the sites where i can buy them from, but i was wondering if I could just pick one up from any hardware store, or the bigger stores like Lowes or Home Depot?

Looking great man! Can't wait til it warms up enough here....still 30 degrees below (celsius) here yesterday so I can try my hands at a scratch build helmet. I don't have anywhere I can play with Bondo in the house. As for the visor it seems like alot of people just buy replacement faceshields from hardware stores and cut them down, if you hunt around the forums a bit you'll find the info you need, there's also someone out there that sells precut visors but I can't recall who it is off hand.

Thank you, I was planning on going on a hardware run tomorrow, hopefully find those replacement shields. I found those pre cut visors but there is like three different sizes, not sure what one is best for a WOF helmet. Im thinking i should pick up some Bondo as well, wanna keep this a fairly cheap build though, so far i have only spent 12 dollars XD.

Got me some Bondo (great stuff!!!) and now the dome is taking shape =]

Well I have been hard at work these past few days, and im sure that can be seen by my advance in progress. Im extremely satisfied with my results so far, i have just a few concnerns though. What is the best method of cutting out the triangles and the dent?

For some reason I can't view the larger pics right now, but from what I can tell by the little pics it looks great.

I would use a very small side-cutting bit on a dremel (rotary tool) to cut the triangles and dent. Use an X-acto to clean up the edges. You can also use mini files on the edges if you want them really crisp.

Sweet, I busted out my dremel near the end for some sanding, and cutting out the visor as well. Not sure if i have the bit ur talking about but if thats what i need, then i better get one.

So an update on my progress, got a small cutting bit for the dremel so i cut out the dent and the triangles. But i bought some more cardboard and decided to start on the gauntlets. Got pretty far with those, so now i will begin filling and assembling the gauntlets as well as getting the bucket finished and primed. I might leave these unpainted for a short while, im thinking of working on few new things. Either being the soft parts, jet pack, or armor.
