Finally painting up my bucket...Definitely a work in progress!!

I bought this 2 or 3 years ago, and I am just now getting around to finishing it. I bought this off of ebay, and I think the guy told me it was the MSH, but I'm not sure. The helmet arrived to me painted silver, and I believe it is made of resin. I tip my hat to each of you guys who can make these helmets look screen accurate, as there is so much that goes into the details to make these look good. My bucket is obviously a work in progress, and I have been viewing the helpful tips here at TDH to get mine looking somewhat decent. I have a lifesize Fett in my down stairs area, but I've always just had a modified DP 95 on it, and that helmet just always looked a little too small for my particular Fett.

I'll post more pics as this paint up progresses, but I thought I would share how it looks so far.

Thank you. I haven't quite figured out how I'm going to attach my visor. I am not sure simply because of how thick the resin is along the area that the visor rests up against on the inside the helmet. I've thought about dremeling the visor area down to the appropriate thickness, but that would be a lot of work. I've also thought about somehow dremeling a groove on each side of the front T area, and then simply popping the visor into the grooved area. Doing this particular method would require that I cut the visor exactly to the size and shape of the open T area of the helmet (in addition to the little extra needed for the grooves). This method makes sense in my head, but I may not be explaining it well, LOL.

Anyway, thanks for the kind words, and I'll post back as my helmet progresses.

Well I've continued weathering this thing, attached the right ear and rangefinder, etc... I've actually attached the left ear, as of last night, so I've got a bit more weathering, and then simply to attach the visor. I'll post pics when I'm done .

Thanks for the kind words.

I do have one question you guys may have answered previously, but in the pic below, my helmet is resin and is poured somewhat thick where the visor will be going. Is the simplest solution to simply dremel that down in all areas that the visor will go? If dremeling down the needed areas, do you recommend a small grinding/sanding wheel, or would you recommend using a disc cutting wheel to cut out the unwanted pieces? I hope that makes sense, but if not, I'll try to explain better.

I would dremel it down to a uniform thickness either way would do it, its up to you , mines fiberglass and I sanded mine as it wasn't to bad , just remember to wear a mask as you don't wont resin dust in your system

A dremel is such an invaluable tool to own. I was amazed to hear a person here starting their Fett helmet in another thread but not having a dremmel on hand or even a drill. Hacksaw and files won't even come close to a dremmel though having different files on hand will help a ton too. I use a dremmel for everything I do with my Star Wars projects. Go slow and remember there's no rush or deadline and you'll do fine thinning down the inside of helmet. It's the best way to do it for sure and very simple once you get the hang out it.

Sounds good guys, and thanks for your input. I really appreciate it. I totally agree with having/needing a dremel. I utilize my dremel a lot in the masks I offer, so definitely a tool I can't do without . I'll post some pics of my helmet when I've finished him up.

Well, for the most part, I finally finished up my bucket. I do lack painting a few little pieces of detail on the ears, mounting the visor, etc... I decided to take my old 95 Don Post helmet off my Fett, trying the new helmet on for size, and I am pleased with how it turned out. I think I need to raise the helmet up a bit showing a little more of Fett's neck, but overall, I like how it looks. One day, I plan on having a lifesize Solo in carbonite hanging on the wall behind my Fett (hint to a fellow member here ;-)), so hopefully that will be my next project.
