ESB bucket paint help...Steel Wool?

As I near the completion of my ESB Fett, I tried to tone down the paint with steel wool, to no avail, I couldn't really tell a difference, what else can I do?

Any pictures of the helmet? When you say 'tone down' what are you trying to achieve? I have found that depending on the grade of wire wool and the amount you use it, you can almost polish the surface, which deepens overall tone and levels the surface...

Soft pastel pigment powders.

Available at Michael's or an art store.

You might try lightly sanding it with very fine wetsand paper.

If you want to take all the shine out you can also finish it with a flat coat or clear coat.

krylon matte coat. just be careful some clear coats react to paint differently.

I also use Testors Dullcoat, along with Krylon Matte, they both work well.
