DPFett's ESB WIP (Help heavily needed)

DPFett

New Hunter
Hello everyone! I was previously in the process of starting a Vader build, after following many friends' and people's advice because of my 6'6" height. Boba Fett, however, is my favorite Star Wars character and has my favorite costume, and I think I could definitely pull off a good one. I will need help and advice for certain sizing on pieces for this build, so I will leave some parts open for feedback/options, and any feedback is greatly encouraged, as I want a suit that will still look accurate given my height difference. ESB is my favorite version of his suit and the one I'd like to build.

I would really appreciate opinions on whether 3D printing my armor would be necessary to account for my 4-5 inch height difference for accuracy, especially regarding the spacing on the chest armor. I do plan on having mostly all the hard parts painted and done by professionals. I have no deadline for this build, and would rather have any paint stuff done by a professional. I have no issue DIYing anything that would save me a buck, though.

I'll update and add to this list based on feedback, changes, opinions, and anything. If there is a part missing, it's because I have no clue who to get it from. I will be very open-minded about this, as I want this to look good while accommodating the height difference. Aiming for 501st approval. My budget is whatever I spent when this is finished haha. I don't care to go super high-end accurate, but still as screen-accurate, while still not destroying my bank. I'll put next to the item when I purchase and acquire it.

Parts List so far:

Helmet: MinuteFett
Armor: MinuteFett
Flightsuit: CB Props
Gloves: Bobamaker/CB Props ?
Flack Vest: CB Props
Ammo Belt: HandmadeHorror shop

Hey man! That's exciting, at that height you would definitely make an awesome Vader! And you will make an awesome Boba too!

With your height yes, I would recommend scaling up for the best look but I would reach out to Minute first, He used to offer chest armor in multiple sizes a few years ago and had a Large option. He may still have the vac form tooling for those, worth asking.

If he doesn't and you end up going 3d print, I've heard good things about the software Armorsmith, you can put your body measurements in and it makes a 3d model person which you can load armor files on and play around with scaling to see what would work best for your body type.

Thank you! Would you recommend also looking into upsizing the helmet to help give it that large helmet feel with the upscaled armor, or would that probably not be necessary?

I got in contact with Minute, things are looking good.

Your parts list is perfect so far! I'd check out DrToothache ESB build thread (He makes the jetpack harness too and I highly recommend ordering from him). He has a CB flightsuit and his costume is immaculate. Clothears is the best flight suit you can get, but it's also the most expensive (ask me how I know lol). I just ordered my wookie braids from TunaFett57 and they're great quality (He also makes the cape with the screen used army tent). Coincidentally, Drtoothache also has the wookie braids from tuna. Like Viewoptic said. Check out Ord Mantells build and do whatever he does and you'll end up with a great build. That's my plan atleast. I'm in the same boat as you, I just began sourcing my parts less than a month ago but I've purchased like 95% of it. The boots are the one item that is pretty much in limbo of not having any accurate pairs being sold. I'm waiting on WF or MOW to do a run, but as others in the thread have pointed out it is unlikely MOW will ever do another one.

I would say probably not unless you really want the huge bobblehead ESB look, but I'm going to summon Irongladiator in here. He's got more vertical experience than me lol

There are helmets available that are bigger than others. There may be an old size comparison thread floating around here somewhere

Welcome to TDH! Another tall Fett, eh? While I consider myself on the taller side (6' 2"), you got me beat by 4 inches. I also cosplay as a Scout Trooper - and I always get the "aren't you a little tall to be a Stormtrooper?"

Here's an example of me in my Scout trooper and I'm a tall 'Trooper' in the group. (We were escorting Elizabeth Dulau to her panel at a Convention)...

There was only one other time where I felt 'short' when compared to another cosplayer, and that was when I was with a Vader....

For me, I didn't size up anything and primarily went with Boba Maker for my Helmet, Armor and Jetpack. I'm working on a 'The Force Awakens - Kylo Ren' right now. I'm thankful that Adam Driver's height is 6' 2", same as me!

Best of luck to you in your build! We're here if you got questions!

Cheers,

Thank you for that great reply! I at one point was considering a Kylo build as well haha, still may one day. That is reassuring, I may start with researching measurements and go from there to see if it’d be necessary to resize, but I think for the most part I’d prefer to avoid resizing, especially for the chest LED part. I am a very slender tall dude so that could help with Boba as well.

Is there a suggested helmet vendor for MachineCraft’s ESB rangefinder parts? At some point, I’ll plan on installing the fancy LEDS and tech to raise and lower the rangefinder at some point down the line.

Can I ask who this WF person is, so I can stay on the lookout for an accurate pair?

You should check out Neo Fett 's website....

While the 'Wireless Servo Kit' seems to be 'Out of Stock' at the moment. I got mine from here and coupled with MachineCraft Replica's 'Hollow' Rangefinder Stalk was a match made in heaven! Another cool effect is that the clear block (The part that Boba looks through) also lights up solid white when lowered too!
Iron's Range Finder - Gif 1.gif

In order to engage the Rangefinder to lower and light up and flash the LED's, is a matter of a button on the palm of my right hand and using my 'Ring Finger' to press it. (Once to lower it and once to raise it). I usually make a fist with my right hand and make it seem like my thumb touches the side cap. Kinda like how we see Boba engage it in 'The Mandalorian' (S2E6 - The Tragedy)....

It's effective and people love it when they see it in action!

I also thought, why stop there? And so, I furthered the interaction experience with a smoke kit. The vendor used there is someone calling them selves 'SpoonMakes' and their product is called 'CosClouds 2'. I opt'd for the wireless fob that I was able to wire to a button on my left Gauntlet.

And finally I added in a MiCom 2.0 Voice Kit. It's kinda like how the Disney Galaxy's Edge Characters do their 'interactions' with the crowd. I gotta tell you, being able to walk up to people and talk with them is a game changer and some of the reactions are amazing....

Looking forward to seeing how you progress with it all!

Best,
-Iron

While I haven't used Machine Craft's rangefinder personally, with any helmet there is a possibility you may have to do some very small filing/dremeling inside the ear to get it to fit and mount properly but it's very easy and not a big operation.

For what it's worth MachineCraft's rangefinder has fit perfectly in every helmet I've ever installed it in.
