Boushh Boushh Helmet/Costume Build by alvo

I'm still working on painting my own Boushh helmet. I'm using Tamiya brand paints. I have a question about some of the final steps a lot of people seem to use.

The umber wash.

I have never ever done an umber wash before. What product brand/type do I use? How about the method of application of said wash?

Thanks in advance!

That's a question I've received a few times. I like doing an umber wash at the end because the wash will settle into the battle scars and other places to create a dirty look/feel. It gives everything a nice tone.

I apply my wash with an airbrush, which is maybe out of the ordinary. The reason for this is so I don't get any brush strokes on my helmet. It is just a cleaner application, IMO.

Here are a couple links for the wash I like to use:

Here is a side by side so you can see the before and after results of a wash.

WONDERFUL information. Thank you so much!

I did some googling on this and saw where some wash types ate through paint, so better to ask what's been tried and true with the Tamiya on this helmet!

EDIT: Since you airbrushed the wash on, did you thin it at all? If so, what did you use as a thinner?

I haven't ever thinned the wash. It is already quite thin, so I haven't ever felt like it needed it.
