Its a cool story, but if this is supposed to be the first appearance of Boba Fett isn't the costume in the pics a ROTJ version. Although his helmet has the eye markings on top, his gauntlets and jetpack are definitely ROTJ.

Great read! thanks for sharing this article. Although this was not new news to some of us it’s a great reminder of how cool Boba Fett was even to the people working on him at the time. There’s also footage floating around of this appearance, but I’m at work right now so I don’t have the time to search it out.
