TDH Ad in the Star Wars Insider

:eek:Wow, I'm seriously shocked that I was chosen! I actually consider this quite an honor, considering the awesome caliber of costumes that I was up against. Maybe I'll just chalk it up to the awesome photography (done by dgasser using Braks equipment, thanks guys). Congrats to all of the winners!(y)

I feel like I should be making a speech while holding a little gold helmet.

I'm honored to be able to represent TDH. Autographed copies will be available for a nominal fee. ;)

Congratulations everyone! I look forward to the issue. I'm sure the judging was indeed tough, considering the amount of work everyone puts into their sets. I hope there is another chance for those who, IMHO, should be right up there with you. But, I also know there isn't room for everyone, and eventually, more chances will present themselves.

Again, congratulations!

David.

Most have already posted their pics here, but you are going to have to wait for the issue to see the final photos. :)

Image update

I attempted to photograph the current state of my armour for the my submission. Because of a scheduling conflict and the submission deadline, I had to attempt take the image myself--in costume. (And my camera remote was not working.) Not only was it painfully arduous to take the images alone, when I returned to my computer I discovered that none of images I did take were suitable. I ended up submitting this older image;

When I learned I had been selected to be part of the group represent the TDH in the SW Insider ad, I contacted my friend Rick, and arranged some photo tyme. One humid summer afternoon and 241 images later, I have the shot I would prefer to use in the SW Insider Ad.

I prefer this shot for detail, and because it shows my current shoulder bells.

I understand that the background will be replaced with a solid field for the final ad layout. The full resoluion version of the image has been sent to the layout team for consideration.

I would like to state that this opportunity is a hounour for me. My experience with The Dented Helmet community has been one of support and true camaraderie. This is a very special group and I am thrilled to be part of its representation.

Be well,
Thomas

I find it funny Durge is the "Dented Variant" chosen, he is not even a Variant of Mando armor....his costume may be sexy but Boba/Jango/Mando variant it is not.

Bad choice imho but meh.....congrats to the winners. But again its not really a Dented Anything....

Sorry Novall and all you amazing Mando Variants out there, apparently Dented Variants now means "Anything under the sun that ain't Mando" and not "Jodo Kast, Fenn Shysha, Tobi Dala, Jaster Mereel, Montross, Femme-Fetts, and other MANDALORIAN-based costume variations."

Durge this is in no way an attack against you. Your costume is so damn sexy as to be unbelievable. Its truly the hotness. But it is not a Mando Variant....in m eyes.

edit- Removed claim that Durge never posted a WIP apparently he did so before my time and it was deleted because of technical things in Sarlaac. Many apologies. My opinion about Dented Variants of course is still mine to possess.

I have received a couple of messages about this.

Seems everyone is just discounting MoW's Hoth Fett as a "Dented Variant" and it makes me a bit sad to see something of an elitist sentiment among the Variant community that seems to be along the line of "Durge isn't one of us." Comes off a bit hypocritical from a group who has fought hard to be considered equals among the Jango and Boba crowd to now be ostracizing another costumer. I can agree that Durge is not a Boba/Jango/Mando variant but would argue that his Mandalorian symbol does lump him in with the Dented variants and makes him a valid participant. Apparently the majority of our judges thought the same. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion but some of this borders on sounding like sour grapes which doesn't at all fit in with the good character that I am familiar with from the Variant community.

I have nothing to be sour over mate, did not submit a photo. So why would my grapes be sour?

My comments regarding sour grapes aren't directed specifically at you but at the fact that your wording, including the whole thing about no WIP posts, is almost identical to some of the other comments I received which almost implies a group effort.. hence the sour grapes comment.

I can see your points... and all I can tell you is that I, and probably most people, see variants as more of a catch all for anything relating to Boba or Jango but not actually being Boba or Jango. I think the delineations you guys make come from EU sources that aren't widely known here. Not trying to start an us vs them, just saying that I would dare say most of us aren't to speed on "Jaings" and things like that... so for us, Durge pretty much falls into the variants, as could Arc Troopers.

Missed logging on for a while and so I guess I missed the "re-submit". Oh well, next time I guess. Would've been cool to have a "McQuarrie White Fett".

Good lick guys!!

Geo

I had to google "jaing skull" to realize that's what I have a tattoo of. I'm totally not into the EU mando mythology. Even now, I'm reading the Legacy of the Force books and wondering why there's so much Mando in it ;)

To me, dented variants sort of encompasses everything that has any tie to Boba or Jango, but isn't them.

So for me, an ARC trooper, Durge or a custom mando... they all fall into the "not-fett but linked" pool.

The customs because they share parts and looks.

The ARCs for the use of symbols and styles from the Fetts

Durge, because of the "Fett Skull" on his chest.

And it's nothing against customs... I think that lots of people do great work in that arena. I'm just not into it myself.

while i dont agree with the "because hes got a bantha skull" makes him related to the fetts, cause i still dont understand why hes got one anyway..... i dont even knwo who the hell durge is, but it doesnt matter. Tom did an eccellt job on the armor, and whomever the judges are picked him over otehr fetts including mine to win. so congrats to whomever the winners are.

when does the next insider come out?
