New to TDH? Read this about how much you will spend!

Ok since about once a week a new member comes in and expects to buy all the parts to a Boba/Jango costume for $100 I thought it would be a good idea to make this thread. I am not trying to discourage new builders but rather inform them so they know what they are getting into and they can get past the "sticker shock" when they ask for parts. Of course you can always find the "great deal" that comes up and get parts for cheaper, and you can always scratch build parts. This is more a list of what to expect to spend if you were to buy parts.

I will not list builders names, and please no one else do that either just to protect the innocent (and the guilty) And just FYI I don't make any of these peices so don't PM me asking for the $100 set of armor.

So here we go. Head to toe. These are for Boba, jango prices will vary slightly

1.Helmet, anwhere from $100-$300 unpainted in kit form. Paintjobs vary from $200 up. Painted helmets start ususaly around $600
    2. Neck seal $30-$60
    3. Vest $50-$100
    4. Armor $ $100-$300+ unpainted. Paintjobs vary from $100 and up
    5. Jumpsuit $100-$250
    6. Girthbelts $40-$60 undyed $60-90 dyed
    7. Ammo belts $80-$175
    8. Belt pouches $20-$40
    9. Jet Pack $300-$550 unpainted kit $600-$1000 painted paintjobs $200 up
    10. Jet Pack harness, this one not many people make so I don't know
    11. Knee armor $50-$100 sometimes included with other armor
    12. Shin tools $50-$150 unpainted or painted
    13. Boot spats $10-$30
    14. Boots $90-$300 the cheap ones are the defect ones from CAboots the expensive are the aftermarket resale on MC or JW boots since neither are still available.
15a. Blaster ROTJ/ESB $75-$1000 the ones for a grand are based on real deactivated webleys
    15b. Pre-pro sling gun $75-$150
    16. Gloves $50-$150
    17. ESB sidearm $90-$140
    18. Cape $15-$45
    19. Chest display $70-$100
    20. Gauntlets(both) $130-$350
    21. Toe Spikes $50-$70
    22. Wookie Braids $10-$50
    23. T-visor $7-$15

Add another $100-$300 on there for accurate paints, glue, snaps random other odds and ends if you are going to do it your self. This is also a good time to point out that that is part of the reason a paint job can cost so much, the paints that were used on the costume aren't cheap.

Again this is just a partial list of what I have seen parts sell for. If I am forgetting anything please feel free to add to it. Good luck and happy building.

Also there are other parts you can add to your costume that you don't have to have such as a voice changer, RC RF controller, metal RF stalk...etc.

OOps I also forgot to mention that the helmets were for helmets that are movie sized (not the MSH1or2) not the Don posts.

I also changed your price on gauntlets because I have never seen a set that is available on a steady basis for under 130 if you know someone who does them for 50 please send me a pm

Re: New to TDH? Read this about how much you will spend!

Ah, they just don't make 'em like they used to.....they now make 'em more movie accurate!!! (and you get what you pay for, that's why all us old timers have upgraded many of our original parts over the years. TDH became a phenomial research database). To bring back some nostalgia from the "old times", check out my original Boba parts back from the late '90s before TDH even existed...

Helmet: Free, given to me by a friend. 95 DP

Armor kit: $315 shipped. This included:
    Collar
    Chest (4 pieces) + Sticker
    Backplate
    Shoulder Bells + Sticker
    Gauntlets
    Cod
    Knees + Resin darts
    Shin tools
    Jet Pack

That's right, every single "hard armor part" including jet pack for $315 shipped. You can't even buy just the jet pack for that price now-a-days. That stuff was really good quality for it's time, but now with the massive research done by TDHers, there's more movie accurate parts available.

OK, part two: the "Bounty Hunter Ensemble" from a now defunct costume company. Again, it was around $315 shipped for this set:
    Jumpsuit
    Vest
    Ankle Spats
    Gloves
    Wookie Scalps
    Cape
    Tan "Saddle bags"

So, those 2 makers made almost every part of my original suit except for shoes, blaster ( $95 resin kit off ebay in 1999 ) girth belt and ammo belt.

I made my own original ammo belt and shoes and upgraded both within the next couple years. Now you can see I made my Boba purchases for everything under $800. But wait! That doesn't include a few hundred dollars more for all the different paints, glues, elastic, industrial velcro, screws/nuts + bolts, aluminum tubing, braided hose, welding visor, and all sorts of other nick nacks to just complete the parts kit you have sitting in front of you. By the time I was "finished" the first time to wear it out, I'm sure it was more like $1,200 or so. By now, I've spent another $600 probably on upgrades, and I'm sure that's normal or even a little low by todays prices to build your own Boba Fett costume.

But on the other hand, you can create your own parts by hand if you're talented in such things and make a good looking Boba costume. I know one local TDHer who built all his "hard parts" by hand out of sintra (yes, including gauntlets and they look darn good) and I believe he said he spent $35 for all the "hard parts" except for the jet pack. You can do it, just depends on how much labor you wish to do and/or what your budget really is.

I forgot the divers belt. But honstly that one is so random in price I got mine for next to nothing since it came in a group of random diver belt buckles, but I have seen the entire harness thing go for lots. (now I only have to figure out what on earth to do with 6 other random metal diver belt buckles).

Mr Fett, It sounds like you did your shopping the same place I did many years ago. After pretty much redoing my costume completely over the last year you certainly realise how expencive this hobby can be. But the accuracy of the parts available through TDH now certainly outweighs the cost in my opinion. But like you said, it can all be done on a budget and still turn out some amazing results!

Might want to add paint.....all the Poly Scale colors / Model Masters will run about $100-$125 to do a complete costume.

Yeah...I had every upgrade, sale, etc. tracking every penny of my ESB, but since lost the info. I do remember being in the $3500+ range................uggh

I have spend over 2000.oo on my fett costume and I am finally a neckseal and sidearm away from 501st. It does cost alot. I couldn't even have a halloween costume fett for under 100.00. At least not a very convincing one.

I think ya forgot to post Wookiee braids. I'd say anywhere from $10 to $50. Like others have posted, the upgrades are gonna cost quite a bit. I initially spent a little over $2k on and my price tag for is now a 5-figure number after upgrading several times.

This is great info that every new member should read because simply put, "you get what you pay for". I know Sticker Shock can put a damper on things but take your time and buy piece by piece and in the long run you'll have everything you need and you'll be satisfied with the end product. C

I think I've got over 4K stuck into mine, and I made every soft part, (minus the boots & ammo belt) myself!!! Makes me wanna cry when i think about it!!! And, I've got many more upgrades planned. Of course, that doesn't figure in the fact that I have never sold any (or the majority of) my older parts. In addition to the "how much it costs" question, heres annother one to add on there: How long does it take to build a good Fett suit???? I've got 5 years into mine, & I expect to keep upgrading for a while!!!

I am also at the 5 year level. But I hope to actually be "finnished" within the year. Unless someone comes up with casts off the pre-pro armor and or helmet then I think I will be done here very soon.

Way to go.... You probably singlehandedly have scared off more new people with this thread than anything else that had been posted.

Lets go over the marketing strategy again because you have it backwards.... first we reel them in showing them amazing pics and all the fun we are having... then, once we have them firmly and hopelessly hooked, we pounce on them like a tiger with the absurdly high cost of this hobby!

I'm new to TDH, and just about to start my journey. After spending several hours here reading up on our hero, I started listing all the stuff I need to get... This thread is really helpful, but also a real eye-opener. ****, this can be a pretty expensive hobby!

I have thought about putting together a Fett suit for many years, probably ever since I saw Fett the first time on screen back in '80. I'm 34 years now with wife and kid, and I already gave up on the whole idea, thinking it's kind of too late starting now. I had no clue TDH existed - I stumbled across you by accident - and I can't tell you how surprised and thrilled I am to see so many people that are doing this!

The collected Fett knowledge and experience building suits here on TDH is simply amazing! You are totally nuts, and I love it! I'm here to stay!

I'm new to TDH as well. I made a set of chest armor back in Art School out of steel plate - very heavy. Found this site by accident. Great resource! Nice to get an idea of how much people have spent on the suits. Gives me a good heads up as to what I'm getting into.

I am new to the TDH forums and think this was a great idea. You don't realize all the time and money needs to be devoted to a project like this until you start. And there is nothing like getting started and then realizing you aren't going to have the time and money to finish. Luckily I built a TK before starting on my Jango so I had some kind of idea what it would take even though a Stormtrooper has nowhere near the amount of pieces that it takes to make a good Fett costume.

Thanks FSOS! Now all we need is a Zammer to come in and post a price list and it will be complete. Since custom mandos are completly different it isn't really possible to make an accurate price list for them.

The price of gloves may need to be altered to $50-$80. I have never seen a pair of gloves go for the "$150" posted. Also, the T-Visor may need to be updated to $10-$20.

I got mine from Shelby (Slave1) himself and he only ever charged $50.... The occasional ebay auctions or re-sale of them may have gone that far, but as for the maker it was only ever $50 out of the gate.

Total: $3366.00 (I can post the breakdown upon request)

And keep in mind that it has taken me 5 years to get to this point. Many items have been bought and replaced 2-4 times over the past 5 years as they break or as I find better quality/more accurate items to replace them with.

I made a lot of my parts myself to save money. Imagine how much my total would be if I had've bought every one of them!

I guess since the summer of 2002 I've probably spent somewhere in the range of $4500 - $5000 on my suit, in all of its "incarnations". Of course that was buying a little here and a little there. There's NO WAY I could've dropped that kind of money at one time on a costume. It was done bit by bit, over time.

I have one word of advice for you "new" guys and gals: PERSISTENCE You'll get there. Just stick with it. Do the best you can and get it "wearable", then replace/mod pieces as your budget allows. I've seen over the years that if someone doesn't get their suit wearable quickly, they often lose interest in the process, and they never complete the suit (which turns out to be just a big waste of money then). They're too focused on getting "this part" or "that part", which may be the best parts on the market, instead of just focusing on getting something that they can wear until they can mod/improve the suit later.

I went from nothing to wearable suit to accepted into the 501st Legion in 5 months. Was it the most perfect ROTJ suit ever? Hardly. BUT, it was passable, and because I could wear my suit, I caught "the fever" (we all know what THAT is!!!) and HAD to finish my suit so that I could wear it to more often to events. That was 5 years and 100 events ago.

And to think that I started out wanting to build a costume for a mannequin!

I'm new to this . This is a great post. But with anything Star Wars or any character. And if you want to do it right it is going to cost money. It is also a hobby. I have been collecting Star Wars seriously since 1989. And going into this (me wanting to start a boba fett costume) I'm looking at this as a hobby.

Re: New to TDH? Read this about how much you will spend!

If it's your first time here, and the first things you want to know are on the lines of "where can I buy a complete costume?" ... then you are in the same boat as me. My costume represents that it is quite possible to do something like that, but having just posted that, I will mention the following:

    1) If you are looking for a specific costume component to arrive completed, you MAY be looking at something in the ballpark of what I spent for mine.
    2) It takes some time to get each component. Don't expect it to arrive in 2 days.
    3) I did NOT do zero-work on my costume. Most of the work I did involved a bunch of electronics wiring and modifications, soft armor weathering, and putting everything together.

Before anyone reads my post, I will say the figure I come up with is near the upper end of the range of how much a costume costs. So any newcomer who reads this, PLEASE DON'T TURN AWAY FROM THE PROJECT! The reason I posted this is because most of my costume components came from some of the best propmakers on TDH.:thumbup Also, most of them came "ready to wear!" I am the type that likes to have it ready to go when it arrives ... but that means it costs more since I was willing to pay others to do work for me (like painting and weathering.)

Anyway, here it goes. I don't want to post the marker of each item as he/she may not want his/her prices made public:

    Boots: $140
    Boot Spikes: $54
    Spats: $15
    Shin tools (painted): $210
    Girth Belt: $60
    Ammo Belt: $200
    US Divers Belt/Buckle: $40
    Belt Pouches: $45
    Vest: $90
    Jumpsuit: $123
    Gloves: $85
    Neck Seal: $49
    Wookiee Braids: $40
Armor (knee w/ darts, cod, kidney, chest, collar, back, shoulder) (painted): $849
    Collar studs: $25
    Chest display: $79
    Cape: $31
    Helmet (painted): $630
    Rangefinder & stalk: $70
    Jet Pack (painted): $1,135
Screen accurate jet pack harness: $700
Jet Pack Beacon & stabilizer: $70
    Gauntlets (unpainted): $350
    Gauntlet darts: $40
    Blaster: $500
    Voice modulator: $500
RF LEDs & remote controlled servo: $237
    Mic & Speaker: $75
    -------------------------------------------------------
    TOTAL: $6,443

(The things I did not include are things like velcro, straps, clips, snaps, helmet fans, LEDS, wires, switches ... stuff like that.)

How much did Fetthunter's suit cost?

Note: some of these parts were bought directly from their respective manufacturers, and some were bought 2nd hand (Cargo Hold, eBay, RPF, etc.)

    1. Helmet: $600 MSH1 #7 (painted)
    2. Neck seal: made into jumpsuit
    3. Vest: $75 RA
    4. Armor: $100 FD (painted myself)
    5. Jumpsuit: $209 BM (with mods)
    6. Girthbelts: $35 FD (dyed myself)
    7. Ammo belts $120 PS leather
    8. Belt pouches $45 FD
    9. Jet Pack $450 MO (painted myself)
    10. Jet Pack harness: $10 FD
    11. Knee armor: $30 FD (painted myself)
    12. Shin tools: $20 FD
    13. Boot spats: $15 FD
    14. Boots: $300 MC
    15. Blaster ROTJ: $175 SP
    16. Gloves: $90 S1
    17. Cape: $35 FD
    18. Chest display: $185 SM
    19. Gauntlets(both): $460 custom (painted myself)
    20. Toe Spikes: included on MC boots
    21. Wookie Braids $25 FD
    22. T-visor: included with helmet
    23. Antenna stalk: $20 (RA aluminum)
    24. Voice amp (black Radio Shack): $55
    25. Fett Voice synth: $165 HD
    26. Fett Voice /compressor/modulator: $50 FD
    27. Jet Pack decals: $15 VdS
    28. Chest & shoulder decals: $10 VdS
    29. Aluminum shoulder studs: $20 RD
    30. Resin calc pad: $6 FD
    31. Resin dental expander: $6 FD
Misc. paints, sandpaper, tools, sealer, and other necessary items: $300
(and I could have very well forgotten something...)

    Total: $3526.00

And keep in mind that it has taken me 5 years to get to this point. Many items have been bought and replaced 2-4 times over the past 5 years as they break or as I find better quality/more accurate items to replace them with.

Also note that a lot of my prices seem REALLY low, such as my shin tools and spats. That's because I made them myself to save money. I could have easily spent an additional $1500 by paying other people to build and paint my parts (good thing I got acquainted with an airbrush eary on in this process!).

I guess since the summer of 2002 I've probably spent somewhere in the range of $4500 - $5000 on my suit, in all of its "incarnations". Of course that was buying a little here and a little there. There's NO WAY I could've dropped that kind of money on a costume all at once. It was done bit by bit, over time.

    7602's suit

i like the idea of folks each posting their breakdowns... i think it gives people a good idea of the variety of options, and what people spend their $$ on, since we all have areas we put a lot into, and areas we skimp on.

my prices are slightly rounded, since i didn't keep great track of things. in most cases, i'm on my 3rd or 4th version of a part. this just represents the current stuff as of now.

flightsuit: $30, since i made it myself
vest: around $100 for the tackle twill and sewing (batninja)
    neck seal: $30ish? (tk409)
    gloves: $85 (THE REAL GLOVES)
    boots: $100 (caboots.com)
boot spikes: i forget... i want to say $50. (omega_man)
spats: scrap fabric, no cost really
shin tools: $50ish, including an original patterson squeegee
    knee armor: $30, capricorn armor
    knee darts: $50ish, (russrep)
    ammo belt: $100 (99centTaco)
girth belt: $30 i think (crazy4bobafett), then dye and straps
    armor: $1100 (partsandtechnical.com)
    chest display: $80ish? (shackman)
    shoulder studs: $40ish? (psberetta)
    rocket pack: $320 (bradleyfett)
    - us divers belt buckle: $50
    - beacon and stabilizer: $70 (psberetta)
    gauntlets: $350 (manowar)
    - gauntlet rocket/darts: around $140, could have been psberetta or russrep
    - dental expander: $10 fettpride
    - mq1 keypad: $150 (original casio)
    cape: $10 army tent
    wookiee braids: $35 (julie)
    helmet: $550 (HS sun)
    - chin cup: $25 (fettpride)
    visor: $20 (bobamaker)
blaster: $550? (HS webley, elvistrooper barrel, tasco scope, blast-tech fins and sidewinder greeblies)

then probably $100 worth of paint, glue, velcro, etc...

so total is around $4275, give or take a few bucks.

hahaha... i thought i was done! since the original post i finished up the blaster and got a new bucket

yeah, i'd say for my jango, I'm lookin somewhere between 3000 and 3500 total, and theres still a few pieces I'd like to upgrade

    ****** ebay armor (v1) 150.00
JD armor - fiberglass helmet and all armor - 500.00 give or take a little
    helmet gasket - 40
    MLC Arena pack - 385
    MLC v2 pack - 385
    blue door gauntlets - 150
    jumpsuit - 70
    vest - 65-75
    gloves - 20
    cummerbun - 40
belt/pouches/holsters - made myself, and when all was said and done, probably about 150 give or take a bit
    MR westars - 600
    knee darts - 65-85
    reinone boots - 200
another 100 or so in materials

I'd like to upgrade my gauntlets one of these days, and I'm about due for a new jumpsuit. It's nice to almost have it where i want it, but theres no way i would have been able to drop that kind of cash in one shot. All I can say is be patient, do your research, this forum is a mine of good info and better people!

Thanks for all the prices. I wish to start building my costume very soon. I've so far saved a little over $2000. I was planning on buying my Boba Fett costume from Star Fortress Production. But due terrible reviews about SFP, I've decided not to. So I plan on building my fett costume and hope I'll turn out just fine.

    Hi everyone.
I AM new here, but as for sticker shock... no, not really. My husband and I have been doing 'Klingon' for Star Trek for some time, so there really isn't anything that would shock me for a price tag anymore. Seems like DIY can be your best friend sometimes in the world of Star Trek, so we know the feeling. We're going to try to do a Zam (me) and Jango (him), and so far, your board kicks butt for ideas and 'how-to's'. We havent' fully 'evolved' from Star Trek (just try to make him stop! I'm making him a new Klingon outfit now ), and in the learning stages for our new outfits-to-be, but fear not. We haven't met a price tag that drove us off yet; just takes a little extra saving, that's all. We're hoping to be in the bounty hunter game soon enough. Just wanted to say 'hi', since I'll be on here a LOT for ideas. Bye!

I'm new here too. Sticker shock doesn't happen to me often either. I built my own custom Sith costume a few years back...though that only cost me about $700, and takes around 4 hours to get into. I'm also a comp geek who likes the most bad (and therefore expensive) rigs.

I'm currently designing a custom Mando in what spare time I have over here, and when I get back I'll start construction. I've already estimated the price at several thousand, and prepared to spend more.

One quick side note on weathering. I'm debating if I'm going to weather mine or not, or maybe do a tad bit. I like my stuff being spick and span, and if I were a r/l Mando with my mentality when I'm not working I'd be cleaning/tending to my armor. So what does everyone think? Weather, not weather, or just a little bit?

that's the great thing about customs... you can do whatever you want with it. i think a clean and shiny mando could be interesting.

Yeah, I think I'll definitely go with a clean Mando...not too shiny though, mine's going to be based on stealth so it'll be more subdued: Dark green, black...want a third color, still deciding.

I'm pretty good at CG art...but that's scenery and stuff...I can't draw or model a CG character for ****. I wish I could draw up my concept to show everyone. I'm probably going to make the majority of the armor out of steel. I'd like all the armor pieces to be steel, but there's some components, helmet especially, that are way beyond my metal working level.

I'm also going to make two beskad to go with it.

you're there now. this is the best place to go for anything fett related.

as far as specific people / places.. that's all in the eye of the beholder. some people will prefer certain sizes, materials, etc... no-one can really tell you what is the "best"

just read the various threads and see what you like.

Thanks for the prices we might spend down the road with this costume choice. I'm a Newbie here but some of you know me from other places. Please don't hold that against me

Well right now my running tally of aquired materials for my ROTJ Fett is $1458. I still need my gauntlets, accessories for the gauntlets, EE-3 blaster, vest, motorized components for my RF and the paints required to finish my helmet and armor. So, I am looking forward to that 07 tax refund check!

Long time reader, first time joiner. And glad to be here!

I would like to reenforce the fact that there is no "cheap" way out of a Fett. I know from experience. I was trying to beat a convention deadline last year and work within my budget - which was practically nothing after my divorce - and came up with a fairly decent costume with an odd sort of blaster for about $400 NOT counting the helmet. Before I knew about this forum I did buy a pretty darn decent helmet off ebay but it was another $400 in itself. I had no idea I was paying too much for that repainted Don Post, but I still say it's a pretty good one. I did by a couple of other pieces on ebay - cape from TK409 (which is how I eventually got to this site), wookiee braids and chest armor. The rest was cheap materials and it shows. So there's $800 for a costume that is far from canon but has done me well for the area I live and has lasted through 5 appearances in the last year. But it's definitely subpar.

So for any of the newcomers who see the shots of some of you guys' brilliant costumes and expects to come off easy, I hate to disappoint them to tell them they can't, but they just can't. Which is where I'm at.

I'm probably going to retire my scratchbuilt Fett and start on making something real. And I'm being just as real about it. Like I am, newbies should expect to spend a year or two on their costume just to get one done and years after that upgrading and keeping it maintained, unless you're just going to put it on a mannequin.

We'd all love for this to be easy but it's not. It's about passion. Passion for the uniform. Passion for Star Wars. Passion for the Fett.

And, apparently, according to the number of people in these forums, man, it's simply great!

So if you're new to this forum and, like me, starting your real Fett adventure, then buckle up, adjust your rangefinder, and get ready for the pursuit that leads to the grandest of rewards, no matter how long you have to chase it. Because there just isn't anything better IMO.

And who said the life of a bounty hunter was easy anyway?

Good luck to you all! And may the fo......well...may the bounty come easier than expected. After all, it's worth a lot to me..and all of us.

For my Jango, which is nearly completed, I’ve got this much so far into it. Some prices are probably off since my memory is falling short these days:

Secondhand BKBT helmet, SGB flightsuit and vest - $330
    BKBT armor $350
    Cruzer bolo material $100
    Cruzer holsters $225
    Cruzer back armor $100
    Ammo pouches $60
    MR blasters $350
    MoW Jet Pack $350
    Cruzer gauntlets $225
    Reinone boots $225
    Darkside metal accessories $300
    JD knees with darts $50
    Nordstrom Gloves $60

Paints, glues, sandpaper, masking tape, elastic, snaps, fans, lights, etc.. $150
    Remade new vest myself $25
    homemade shin armor $10

Total: $2910 roughly so far with myself doing all the assembly and painting.

Still plan to upgrade: shins, knees, flightsuit, and vest

Heyy all, I'm new here but have had many ideas about creating my own Mando armour. It's something that I've wanted to do for a while and I know alot of people have created Boba or Jango replicas I'd like to make an original. I've read this post and come to grips with the expense but obviously it's so worth it.
There's so much I want to do and I'm not very skilled at making these kinda things but want to do it all myself. Is there any tips and advise that people woul give to a first timer like myself?
This seems like a great community and I'm sure I'll get alot of feedback and help from helpful and kind people. Glad to have found the forum and to be part of the community.

Re: New to TDH? Read this about how much you will spend!

Well, after reading some of the prices I've seen posted here, I wanted to chime in so as to not discourage anyone from completing a truly awesome project.

That being said, I spent roughly $1,140.00, excludng my time.

Keep in mind, if you check these posts often enough, you may find some nice pieces at really great prices.

My Boba Fett cost was fairly low, but that does not mean it's garbage. It's defintiely not screen accurate, and does not measure up to many of the extraordinary builds found here, but I love it, it serves it's purpose, and I have been complimented on it many times.

    Here is a cost breakdown:

    Mannequin - $150.00
    Helmet - $95.00
    Visor - $20.00
    Electronics - $10.00
    Armor - $50.00
    COD Piece - $50.00
    Gauntlets - $110.00
    Jet Pack - $250.00
    Vest - $5.00
    Jumpsuit - $65.00
    Boots - $35.00
    Cape - $5.00
    Blaster - $150.00
    Gloves - $5.00
    Girth Belt - $10.00
    Ammo Pouches - $10.00
Side Pouches - Free! (Karma Post)
    Shin Tools - $45.00
    Miscellaneous Hardware - $10.00
    Paint/Building Supplies - $65.00

    Total - $1,140.00

I did get deals on a few items. I got the COD piece, shin tools, jet pack, gauntles, and side pouches from members here. I was able to make the vest cheap becasue I bought the fabric from a craft store and my mom sewed it, same with the cape. The shoes I bought and painted myself, I built the ammo pouches from foam and fabric, the ankle spats were made from leftover material from the jumpsuit, etc, etc, etc. I also painted everything myself with the exception of the COD piece.

And you can see it looks very nice.

I had some very good ideas, how to's, and suggestions in the thread showcasing this build, but for some reason the thread was deleted.

You can see the progress here:

    http://www.policefigures.com/page15.html

Here is the final result. Good luck!

Well, I am only just beginning and I have spent over $1200 thus far on my Boba and custom progress for me and my spouse's suits. Adding an RC recently to that just makes it the same as a small college education.

I too am glad I knew what I was getting into before I got into it. I am working on getting something to the wearable phase as soon as possible, from then on out its just a matter of keeping at it.

    Very informative post though.

Re: New to TDH? Read this about how much you will spend!

I just recently decided to start a ROTJ Boba Fett. For you beginners I made an excel spread sheet with the following columns and rows:

    Columns:
    Armor Piece
Producer (Who to get it from)
    Price
    S/H
    Total
    Date Ordered
    Source
    Notes

    Rows:
    Helmet
    Shoulders
    Collar
    Chest
    Back
    Cod
    Butt
    Knees
    Gauntlets
    Jet Pack
    Decals
    Blaster
    Flight Suit
    Neck Seal
    Flak Jacket
    Gloves
    Boots
    Toe Spikes
    Pouches
    Ammo Belt
    Girth Belt
    LED Chest
    LED RF
    LED Gaunt/Beacon
    RF
    RF Stalk
    Lens
    Cape
    Shin Tools
    Spats
    Braids
Aluminum Upgrade (If you want to go that extra expense about $350.00)
    MQ1 (for helmet)
Voice Amp (another if ya wanna)

Then I could keep track of each item and it's total cost. If you know how to use excel you can set up the Price, S/H, and Total columns to automatically add them up. This way you keep a running total and stay within you budget. I went about $100.00 over my budget of $3000.00, but I also went with some of the top items. You can go cheaper but remember you will probably want to upgrade so it might be best to hold off, save up, and go for that awesome piece from the get go.

I know I'm a newbie but I found going through this experience right now this seemed to help a lot.

    Thanks!

    Levi

At least 1K USD? (That's 40K PHP...) Looks expensive... Then again I'll mostly be using recycled stuff from school projects... (Paint, cardboard, and the like)

Oh well. You guys mentioned that you wn't really buy all the materials at once, right? Hopefully, I can cram a little more time between homework, studying and video games. (o

Besides, by the time I'm done, which is I'm estimating in four years, or so, I'd be in the right age to join the 501st! (lol, but yeah. I'm 14. 18's the age limit, right?)

    ?
I'd be careful about investing too much into your costume now. Seeing as that you're only 14. I'm only 17, so I could still grow, but I also grew 6 inches since I was 14. I'm not trying to discourage you, but be informed that you may grow and then you might have to upgrade. Which being a teenager, trust me...i know, can be very expensive

The cost to put together a top notch Boba Fett costume? About $3,500

The feeling you get when you're dressed in it? Priceless

I was ready for the price to be high, but not quite like that. Either way, I'm going to do this, because I have wanted a Fett costume since I was 12. It seems this is going to be a longer term project than I had originally anticipated. I need a good hobby anyway.

This is a great thread for noobs like myself. Now I know I must stop buying all that stuff I didn't really need and save it for this much more important project.

Here is my list so far...mind you I haven't spent a dime from selling off old stuff and trading. I think I'm at the end of those good times though. Not much left to sell off/trade so the last few things I don't have yet will have to come out of pocket for real! Still...When it's all done I figure I will spend about a 1/3 of what you would if you started from scratch with nothing to sell/trade in place...

    Here you go!

Could you get me on this discount list??

$300?? You must be speaking of the "Rubies Supreme fett" right?? I don't want to discourage you at all, but did you reall all the previous posts? Did you mean $2000-3000 and just forget that last "0" maybe??

I wish you luck on your quest, but I would be surpised if you're anywhere near that number. Please feel free to list your items with their prices so we can follow your progress. Best Of luck.

Here is an update...NOTE* I changed some of the amounts to show ACTUAL cost if you don't know how to cut corners and/or trade, etc.

You should probably have b/w 2500 and 4000 dollars ready to do this right depending on your skill level and how much you can do on your own vs. buying straight from vendors.

And I'm sure that I'm still missing a few odds and ends on this list plus failed attempts, materials/supplies, etc.

Thanks for the great info guys!! Man, what did I get myself into!!??? Ha ha...

I love the challenge and hunt for the right pieces.. But I also understand the good point about getting a wearable costume ASAP in order not to die in the process. But sometime the cost is higher replacing the pieces afterwards, and perhaps you will not be satisfied with the costume.. So my approach is: Get the right things first and then perhaps spend 10-12 months or perhaps even longer.. I have some other SW costumes, so I dont feel naked in the Boba process ...

Hi, I'm glad you did this thread. I'm quickly finding out myself that these kinds of things cost! Luckily for me I have a friend who is an excellent sewer and she is working with me on designing a custom pattern for my fbody for my flightsuit and vest with built-in neck seal. The material for my flightsuit is already purchashed the fabric for my suit and I need to buy the cotton twill for the vest.I'm spending almost $200 on my bucket (thanks Gypsyboy), and I'm about to start paperboard mock ups on my gauntlets; hopefully if they turn out alright I'm be able to save some $$ there and build them myself (here's hoping).
I'll probably build my upper torso pieces myself as well as my shin guards out of 3mm Sintra. More than likely I'll buy the cod piece and back plate from a seller. Since I'm still in the preliminary stages of putting it all together, I've split my materials list into two separate lists; one for hard pieces and one for soft. I will be building my jet pack later so I'm budgeting for a poncho/cloak getup for now.
Most of my $$ is definitely going into the hard pieces, and don't get me started on the boot as I'm still on the hunt for those. It's so much better to do your homework on something like this before you start. I've received so much advice from the guys in here and over in the Mando Mercs and it's helped make this project easier. Thanks all!
