ESB WIP started ... Finally

Doomkitten

Hunter
After everything ordered, and on its way, I thought I would keep a log of my build... Since all the armor is being made now I figured I would start with the fabric pieces, today j made the cape, and am getting my flight suit tailored (it was a little big , and I can't wait for it to be done, it's the MoW two piece, and I'm going to hand dye it. ) here is pictures of the cape, I did yesterday and I will be working on the ammo belt today pictures of that to come!

The cape is obviously the easiest part of the build, for mine I just got a canvas fabric on sale, I gentley spray painted a terra cotta color, and then tea stained it using some cheap earl grey that I got for Christmas like 7 years ago (I like my teas fancy) after a cycle through the dryer I frayed the bottom and attached it to the back of my motorcycle and cryised around for a bit, to let it get more frayed. Then I washedbit again and pressed it to get rid of some of the wrinkle. It also softened the fabric.

Started on the belt ... This was super tedious, hand poked reached hole in it to get that entirely useless but aesthetically pleasing stitch, tomorrow when it is dry I will age it a little and start working on the ammo pouches, of which I have cut out some templates and am messing with the best way to get a genuine leather ammo pouch that is screen accurate in look but isn't all floppy and useless in design

Excited for this for completely selfish reasons! :)

Made a little more progress on the belt, the hand stitching is taking forever, and I finally worked out a great way to make functional real leather ammo belt. I was considering maybe selling some because honestly it's going to be really durable and since its real leather its kind of cool! I'll post pictures of the process in the next few days since I've prepped all seven to be made (it's an ESB Fett)

Here is an update of everything acquired and or worked on!
I had ordered a crappy helmet from eBay but just ordered a sweet FEtt Pride helemet I really got to see what the differences are. Also ordered the Ee-3 from stormrider and a U.S. divers buckle... I'm trying to get legit as possible but since I need a build done by a certain time I am sure I am going to have pieces for sale as I get to upgrade! I am still on the hunt for a great jetpack. I emailed the guy at golden armor because I really like what he does but I don't know about the jetpack. For time purposes I printed all the templates to scratch build. Ammo pouches aren't pictured because I forgot to grab them, and my lovely wifey is seeing the covers for them tonight.

Let me know what you think so far!

So today I spent a lot of time sanding and prepping as I wait for the humbrol order

i also decided to upload the pictures of my first go at making functional real leather ammo pouches to go with the belt. I am waiting patiently for my lady to sew the lids (she is lazy). I made little boxes (based on Batninjas dimensions... If anyone knows of a true ESB size I'm all ears as I didn't really spend a lot of time looking and his seemed super workable) then fiberglassed them to give them some resistance. Wrapped them in leather, dyed the hide, sealed it and then wax dipped for even more durability.

Also I posted in another thread about this "sub par" helmet I got while I wait for FP helmet... I have decided to use the eBay one as a practice. It had a ton of misshapen parts and wacky proportions. Here are obligatory pictures.

also here is a pretty big Black Widow mobbing around my garage where I work. She keeps all the other gross bugs out of there so I let her live as long as she isn't near my work area

Is it just me or is the dome slightly misshapen?
Great start so far. Your vest is a bit blue, or is that lighting
I'll be doing a template build on my JP too, mainly because shipping is a major killer to NZ!

Don't know how realistic you are going on the belt, but the corners are angled not square at the end of the belt.

Stiching on the front flaps is also important. make sure its a uniform thread pattern.

If you are going for ESB make sure you include the required snap buttons for the belt on the appropriate buckles.

To make your belt functional I suggest sewing on velcro to the pouch and back flaps...works like a champ.

Here is an update, got a Jetpack in now comes the (I am sure tedious) action of stripping it and sanding it so I can paint it ESB. I don't think the flak vest is good which kinda sucks because it was the first thing I got so eventually I am DEFINATELY going to get one from ARKADY, I did get my blaster in the other day and that had been fun to put together soon I will have to go to the store and buy some paint for it.

i guess I am moving right along
things I have learned so far:
airbrushing is hard and I am not great at it.
i like sanding things and drinking beer while I sand things
peeling Maskol is also fun

The image of the belt you posted is the repurposed Pre-Pro #1 belt used for ROTJ, so the ammo belt made by Doomkitten is correct. You can read more about the ammo belts and pouches in some of StrumFett's awesome threads here ==> Tutorial: Ammo Belts V2 (with RafalFett templates) and here ==> WIP Ammo pouches fully functionnal.

So it's bren a while and when I am done finally I hope to post all the progress pictures but I thinkni have reached an end to the major armor pieces. So here is a picture. At first being it was my first build, I was trying so hard to be up to snuff with the top painters and ultra screen accurate. Ultimately, it was maddening so I accepted the mistakes and flaws and was just happy that I finished it and it looked cool. Just some soft parts left to buy (gloves and flak vest) then attach all the accessories, and BAM! I will have a complete Fett! (Until the Boba Maker and FP pieces come in towards the end of the year, and then I will probably part this out )
