My wild guesses: Possibly a climbing gear or some sort of backpacking clip?
It looks like the "male" end of the buckle is sewn into the cape.
I'm sure some one could mock up something that looked like this buckle. I don't know how functional it would be... but in the preproduction photos of Boba with the cape draped over his chest he reminds me of Clint Eastwood. That would be the way to wear it.
Yeh, I saw that it was the male end and the female end is actually on the collar armor...Just trying to track it down...if not I guess I get to make one![]()
I think it shouldn't be too hard to make something. There are pics from a couple of angles... and the size of the collar armor/ shoulder studs might help scaling it. I'd love to see it done.

You could probably rig up a way to make a scratchbuilt clip that actually works... with rare earth magnets. They make small flat ones that could be hidden under the clip and inside the buckle.

I think the holes that appear in the back may suggest that originally some sort of webbing was attached.
