MR CE Stormtrooper Helmet Rework

I recently bought a used Master Replicas Stunt Helmet. I wanted to rework the entire helmet to be a bit more screen accurate as well as incorporate a better speaker and fan system. I know that everyone does TK's, but they are fun and this is my first attempt at doing trying to make one quite like this. Please feel free to comment and/or criticize. Thanks.

I almost forgot to take a picture before I started stripping the old paint. This is the MR CE completely taken apart in every way possible.


I wanted to take the Hasbro clone trooper mic system, (just the mic & speaker really since they are pretty good) and build it into the MR Hermet. Here is the Hasbro helmet after I pillaged the parts.

I cut grooves where the cheek vents are. I am going to do this on both sides. My thought is to have a speaker on one cheek and a fan on the other. I ordered some more decals for the MR Helmet from TK-4510's site. I plan to reapply the decals and cut slits in them in order to hide any imperfections in my grooves. I used another set of those decals as my template to know where to cut the grooves.


The com system in the Hasbro Clone was salvaged only for the mic & speaker. I am going to replace the board with a Hyperdyne Labs Pro Trooper board (below)


Please feel free to make suggestions as well. This isn't a 501st purist project and it's more for fun than anything. I also have a set of fiberglass TK armor I'm thinking of tricking out to be a clone-stormtrooper hybrid, (somehow) so your input is welcome. Thanks for looking!

wow - for non-501 project it sounds cool. quite an interesting base helmet you chose to do this on
will be interested in seeing the finaly project completed.

you separated the face? ie the tubes/chin from teh frown? Hmmmm I am intrigued

I had a MRCE that was completely overhauled to become 501st approvable.

This helmet has a history! You can see where is was a TD, then a TK again, then a TD and, well back to a TK. This is a lot of paint to take off!

So I decided to change things a bit. I have been wanting to do a clone-stormie hybrid, so since I have this thing taken apart, I thought, "no time like the present"

In order to make the Stormtrooper helemt look more like a clone, I got advice from from another thread and took images from the Force Unleashed video game that Fett-4-Real linked to in another forum. Here are those images...

In order to get close to this, I had to do some reshaping of the faceplate. As you can see here, I marked off the cheeks and nose, which had to be moved back in order to get that flush look.



I cut everything out with a dremmel, then used a heat gun to get the plastic to fall back about 3/8" of an inch. Then, I used epoxy to seal the deal.


After the epoxy dried, I cut the visor so it would resemble the images from the game. I then used fiberglass filler to smooth out the faceplate, sanded, and sprayed a single coat of primer. Obviously it is still very rough and needs some trimming sanding, etc. But I think it's coming along. I'm not sure if I am going to keep the side vents or not. I'm not going for accuracy necessarily, just having fun with it.

Okay, I decided to go with the 'T' visor look. I thought it would further the transitional look. I also cut the area below the frown back about 3/4" to shrink the helmet down and I also had to cut the chin down a bit to make it look more like a Episode III helmet. I think it is going in the right direction. I have seen this done before, but it has always been with a clone helmet modded to look like a stormtrooper, never the other way round, (that I know of).




Your comments, advise, and criticism are greatly appreciated. I will update further when I get the rest of the plate sanded and filled. It's pretty rough right now, but the shape is there.

that already makes it look remarkably like the Episode 3 clones. it should definitly end up looking like a hybrid/transition helmet.

Here is a shot of the helmet loosley reassembled. The parts are just resting on each other because I still need to sand the faceplate, so not everything is lined up right. And I have not put the ears on yet either.

I don't know yet. I have cut out a few pieces of styrene to play around with. The problem with stormtrooper helmets is that they are just so big. I'm worried it will end up looking like a bobble head.

I dont know if being a transition helmet and all if Id leave the dome the same as the stormy helmets...like look at the pics it has a clone like dome on it where it doesnt have the depression in the front two sides...I dont know if this is something youve thuoght about but I think Id incorperate it maybe?

Okay, It's getting closer. I took some advise and changed the cheek dimples, (you can't tell here) and modified the back of the helmet. I'll post more photos after the chin and frown are painted and I get some weathering done.

I never did finish this thread. Here is the finished pics. Not the greatest looking custom in the world, but it was fun to do regardless.

I always wanted to try something like this to a junk Rubies 2-piece, but instead turn it into the TK helmet from LEGACY.
