As someone who absolutely hates the boredom of sanding until smooth, yes this is possible. There is a trade-off in what you'd rather spend more time on, the printing or processing. Thinner print lines mean longer print times, but thicker print lines mean longer processing. Spray filler primer and Bondo will be your best friend, or you could even use a resin top coating like XTC-3D.
